About Rituel

The Rituel Festival is a multidisciplinary event organized in Rennes by the Rituel 111 association. Created in 2017, it combines music (alternative rock, post-punk, shoegaze, queer pop, experimental pop, indie electro), tattooing, and visual arts (linocut, painting, illustration). Over several days, concert evenings, exhibitions, performances, and tattoo sessions take place successively in Rennes cultural venues such as the Salle de la Cité, Antipode MJC, Le Penny Lane, or BAM (Bâtiment à modeler), with particular attention paid to emerging artists — local, national, and international.

A Multidisciplinary Festival in Rennes

The Rituel Festival is the flagship event of the Rituel 111 association, created in 2017 in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). Its uniqueness: bringing together live music, tattooing, and visual arts during the same highlight event, by investing several cultural venues in the city.

A Demanding and Pioneering Musical Program

The musical program of the Rituel Festival stands out for its openness to alternative and emerging aesthetics. Over the editions, the festival has hosted artists from the alternative rock, post-punk, shoegaze, queer pop, experimental pop, and independent electro scenes. Concert evenings typically take place at the Salle de la Cité, Antipode MJC, or the bar Le Penny Lane, giving the Rennes scene an internationalized platform for expression. Among the artists hosted in recent editions: Special Interest, Dendrons, Lynks, Jessica Winter, Gorgie & Joe, FC Déception, Hotel Lux, Douglas Dare, Nerves, Memoranda.

Tattooing and Visual Arts at BAM

Throughout the festival, BAM (Bâtiment à modeler), in the Cleunay district, becomes the headquarters dedicated to tattooing and visual arts. Guest tattoo artists, exhibitions by painters, illustrators, and linocut artists offer openings, flash sessions, and exhibitions visible throughout the festival week.

Highlighting Emerging Artists

The Rituel Festival's project is consistent with that of the Rituel 111 association: to identify, welcome, and exhibit emerging artists in disciplines sometimes underrepresented in institutional circuits — from contemporary tattooing to alternative pop, linocut, or performance. The carefully curated program gives the festival a strong identity in the Rennes cultural landscape.

Organization

The festival is organized by the Rituel 111 association (SIREN 833 663 164), created on March 11, 2017, and headquartered at 11 boulevard de Chezy in Rennes. The association also organizes occasional evenings throughout the year in Rennes outside of the annual highlight event.
