The pop rock festival in the park of a 14th-century castle in Southern Burgundy
Created in 2009 by a handful of young people from Clayettois, the Festival Saint Rock has established itself as a must-attend event on the pop rock scene in Southern Burgundy. Every summer, the park of the magnificent Château de La Clayette, a 14th-century fortress bathed by its moats, transforms into an open-air stage hosting established artists and emerging talents. With over 5,500 festival-goers, Saint Rock proves that contemporary music doesn't need big cities to make crowds vibrate.
When in 2009, a handful of young people from Clayettois decided to launch a music festival in the park of the Château de La Clayette, no one imagined that this bold gamble would become one of the major cultural events in Saône-et-Loire. Today managed by about fifty passionate volunteers gathered within the Association Saint Rock, the festival attracts over 5,500 festival-goers each summer in this exceptional heritage setting, halfway between Mâcon, Roanne, and Lyon.
The Château de La Clayette, a 14th-century medieval fortress surrounded by moats and classified as a historic monument, offers the festival an incomparable setting. The main stage, set up in the tree-lined park facing the castle towers, creates an intimate and warm atmosphere that festival-goers appreciate. The setting allows for a controlled capacity, preserving the conviviality and proximity between artists and the public that are the signature of Saint Rock.
The Festival Saint Rock champions a program resolutely focused on contemporary music: pop, rock, electro, French chanson, and discoveries. Over the years, the festival has hosted top-tier artists such as Deluxe, Charlie Winston, Terrenoire, Ko Ko Mo, Kadebostany, Videoclub, Feder, Noé Preszow, Joseph Kamel, and Adé (formerly Thérapie Taxi). Saturday afternoons are traditionally dedicated to free concerts showcasing the regional emerging scene, offering a valuable platform for local bands.
Saint Rock's ambition goes beyond mere entertainment. The Association Saint Rock pursues a clear objective: to democratize access to contemporary music in rural areas and involve local stakeholders in a unifying cultural project. The festival focuses on accessible prices, a program that mixes headliners and discoveries, and a strong territorial anchoring in the Charolais-Brionnais region. In 2022, the doubling of attendance confirmed that the gamble had paid off: Saint Rock is now playing with the big summer festivals.
