The living history and ancient reenactment festival of Salbris
Created in 2023, Festival Salera is a unique living history event in Sologne. Every year in June, the Parc Albert Benoist in Salbris transforms into a Gallic and Roman camp, hosting over 150 reenactors. For two days, the public is transported to the time of the Bituriges and Carnutes. Chariot races, gladiator shows, an artisan market, and a Gallic banquet make up a festive and free program.
Festival Salera is a living history and ancient reenactment event that takes place every year in June at the Parc Albert Benoist in Salbris, Loir-et-Cher. Created in 2023, this ambitious festival immerses the public in the daily life of the Gallic and Roman peoples who occupied Sologne two millennia ago.
The name Salera refers to the ancient history of the Salbris region. For two days, over 150 reenactors set up full-scale Gallic and Roman camps, offering a total immersion in antiquity. Visitors can wander among the tents, watch artisans at work, discover ancient forging, weaving, pottery, and cooking techniques, and interact with enthusiasts from all over France.
Festival Salera offers spectacular animations that bring the great moments of antiquity back to life. Chariot races are one of the highlights of the event, with teams racing in the arena to the cheers of the crowd. Gladiator shows recreate the combats of Roman arenas with remarkable historical accuracy. Demonstrations of Roman and Gallic military maneuvers complete the program.
The artisan market brings together creators and reenactors offering jewelry, pottery, leather goods, decorative weapons, and ancient-inspired products. On Saturday evening, a grand Gallic banquet brings together participants and the public around dishes prepared according to historical recipes, in a friendly and festive atmosphere. Ancient and sporting games allow young and old to try their hand at disciplines practiced by our ancestors.
Access to Festival Salera is completely free, in line with the City of Salbris's desire to offer a cultural event accessible to all. Families will find many activities suitable for children, while history enthusiasts will appreciate the particularly meticulous level of reenactment. Two free concerts are also offered on Saturday evening as part of the Fête de la Musique.
