French music and living history at Parc de la Lorraine in Erstein
The Tempus Festival is a unique concept that combines music and history in the heart of Erstein, between Strasbourg and Sélestat. The Tempus Music component, born in 2024, offers two evenings of open-air concerts in the Parc de la Lorraine with artists from the French scene — from Jérémy Frérot to Marc Lavoine accompanied by the Orchestre du Rhin. The Tempus Histoire component offers free immersion into past eras through historical reenactments. Organized by the City of Erstein in co-production with Produc-Son, the festival welcomes approximately 5,000 spectators per edition.
Since 2022, the town of Erstein — an Alsatian town nestled between Strasbourg and Sélestat, on the banks of the Ill river — has hosted the Festival Tempus, an original event that combines French music concerts and immersive historical reenactments. The musical component, Tempus Music, launched in 2024, quickly found its audience by featuring nationally renowned artists in the green setting of the Parc de la rue de la Lorraine, in the heart of the town.
The concept of Tempus Music is simple and effective: two evenings of open-air concerts in an urban park, highlighting the French scene in all its diversity. The 2025 edition offered an eloquent preview with Lancelot and Joseph Kamel opening on Friday, followed by Jérémy Frérot as the headliner, then Malo' and Marc Lavoine accompanied by the Orchestre du Rhin on Saturday, with a dance closing by John Modena. Co-produced with the company Produc-Son, the musical component attracts around 5,000 spectators over the two evenings.
The weekend continues with Tempus Histoire, a free component that transforms Erstein into a true journey through time. Thematic villages recreate the atmospheres, costumes, trades, and culinary traditions of different historical eras — from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age. The Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, the Place des Fêtes, and the streets of the town center also host a fair, amusement rides, boat trips, and fencing demonstrations, completing a festive weekend accessible to all.
Erstein, a sub-prefecture of Bas-Rhin, offers an ideal setting for a festival that combines culture and conviviality. The Parc de la rue de la Lorraine, a green space in the heart of the town, is perfectly suited for open-air concerts, while the historic center provides an authentic backdrop for reenactments. Tickets are available at E.Leclerc Culture, the Erstein Tourist Office, and online.
