A festival at the crossroads of music and history
Since 2022, the town of Erstein — an Alsatian town nestled between Strasbourg and Sélestat, on the banks of the Ill river — has hosted the Festival Tempus, an original event that combines French music concerts and immersive historical reenactments. The musical component, Tempus Music, launched in 2024, quickly found its audience by featuring nationally renowned artists in the green setting of the Parc de la rue de la Lorraine, in the heart of the town.
Tempus Music: the French scene under the stars
The concept of Tempus Music is simple and effective: two evenings of open-air concerts in an urban park, highlighting the French scene in all its diversity. The 2025 edition offered an eloquent preview with Lancelot and Joseph Kamel opening on Friday, followed by Jérémy Frérot as the headliner, then Malo' and Marc Lavoine accompanied by the Orchestre du Rhin on Saturday, with a dance closing by John Modena. Co-produced with the company Produc-Son, the musical component attracts around 5,000 spectators over the two evenings.
Tempus Histoire: a journey through time
The weekend continues with Tempus Histoire, a free component that transforms Erstein into a true journey through time. Thematic villages recreate the atmospheres, costumes, trades, and culinary traditions of different historical eras — from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age. The Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, the Place des Fêtes, and the streets of the town center also host a fair, amusement rides, boat trips, and fencing demonstrations, completing a festive weekend accessible to all.
Erstein, a green setting on the banks of the Ill
Erstein, a sub-prefecture of Bas-Rhin, offers an ideal setting for a festival that combines culture and conviviality. The Parc de la rue de la Lorraine, a green space in the heart of the town, is perfectly suited for open-air concerts, while the historic center provides an authentic backdrop for reenactments. Tickets are available at E.Leclerc Culture, the Erstein Tourist Office, and online.
