Popular ball, couscous competition, and fireworks in Corbeil-Essonnes
Corbeil-Essonnes, a sub-prefecture of Essonne and a historic city at the confluence of the Essonne and the Seine, offers a National Holiday each year that reflects its image: popular, friendly, and colorful. The evening of July 13th brings together thousands of residents on the Town Hall square in a festive and warm atmosphere.
Starting at 7 PM, the Town Hall square transforms into a giant open-air dance floor. The band EGCM Project takes the stage for a live concert that energizes the evening until the fireworks. This band, with its varied and popular repertoire, knows how to get a multi-generational audience moving, playing French and international hits in an irresistibly festive atmosphere.
An original feature that has made the Corbeil-Essonnes National Holiday famous: the best couscous competition. This friendly and flavorful competition invites residents to compete for the title of best cook of this convivial and popular dish. A jury of gourmets tastes the different recipes, all prepared with love and tradition, before naming the grand winner to the cheers of the crowd. This competition has become a strong symbol of living together in Corbeil-Essonnes.
At 10:45 PM, fireworks light up the sky of Corbeil-Essonnes in a pyrotechnic display eagerly awaited by the entire city. The reflections in the nearby Seine add an extra dimension to the spectacle, creating striking visual effects. This moment unites the entire community in a shared sense of pride and collective emotion.
Founded in the Middle Ages, Corbeil-Essonnes is a city steeped in history with its former royal castle, its Saint-Spire Cathedral, and its medieval mills. A city of 50,000 inhabitants, it embodies the diversity and dynamism of the medium-sized towns in the Parisian suburbs. The National Holiday is an opportunity to celebrate this shared past together while looking towards the future.
