The donkey fair, the craft market and the concerts of August 15th in Suarce
Every August 15th, the small village of Suarce (90100) in the Territoire de Belfort transforms into the epicenter of a unique popular festival. The Fête de l'Âne, which celebrates its 27th edition in 2025, attracts several thousand visitors from all over the region and beyond for a day of festivities from 8 am to midnight.
From 8 am, the streets of Suarce come alive around the traditional donkey fair, where buyers and sellers meet for transactions in the purest tradition of rural fairs. From 9:30 am to 11:30 am, the gymkhana — a training event on a course — highlights the donkeys' abilities and the bond between the animal and its owner in a good-natured and quirky atmosphere.
From the morning, the village streets welcome nearly 100 artisans and exhibitors who present their skills: potters, clog makers, basket weavers, blacksmiths, stone cutters, embroiderers, painters, sculptors, lacemakers… These artisans work in front of the public throughout the day, allowing everyone to discover or rediscover ancestral crafts. Regional products — honey, jams, cheeses, cured meats — complete this delicious picture.
At 3 pm, the village mobilizes for the traditional flower parade: decorated floats, decorated bicycles and brass bands parade through the streets of Suarce to the cheers of the public. This colorful and festive parade is one of the highlights of the day, bringing together young and old in a spirit of infectious joy.
Children also have access to numerous activities: donkey rides, carousels, inflatable structures, trampolines, archery and exhibitions of vintage vehicles. Donkey rides remain one of the most popular activities for the youngest.
At nightfall, the Fête de l'Âne transforms into a music festival. National or regional artists and bands take the stage for festive concerts that extend the revelry until midnight. The 2025 edition notably featured Stéphane, a French pop artist who appeared on the show Taratata on France 2, and the duo Madame Monsieur, who represented France at Eurovision 2018.
Organized by the Comité des Fêtes de Suarce with the support of the municipality, the Fête de l'Âne is a model of successful popular celebration, combining rural traditions, living crafts and contemporary entertainment. Admission is offered at a modest price (5 EUR), with free entry for children under 13 and people with disabilities.
The 28th Suarce Donkey Festival will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 9 AM to 12:30 AM, in the village of Suarce (Territoire de Belfort). A donkey fair, gymkhana, market with a hundred exhibitors and artisans, flower parade, children's entertainment, and evening concerts punctuate this popular and family-friendly day, which has become one of the major summer events in the south of Territoire de Belfort.
The 28th Suarce Donkey Festival takes place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 9 AM to 12:30 AM, true to its tradition as a popular and rural celebration. Families can enjoy donkey rides, carousels, inflatable structures, trampolines, and an archery stand, as well as an exhibition of old fire department vehicles.
In the evening, starting from 7:45 PM, several groups take turns on stage for an open-air music festival. The detailed 2026 music program will be announced by the organizer in the weeks leading up to the event.
