About Fête de la Musique de Cherbourg
Fête de la Musique de Cherbourg — edition 2026
The Fête de la Musique 2026 in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin will take place on Sunday, June 21. The City will open its streets, squares, and gardens to amateur and professional musicians for a day of free open-air concerts, with a new feature this year: a musical springboard dedicated to the local scene.
2026 Edition — Sunday, June 21
The Fête de la Musique returns on Sunday, June 21, 2026, to Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. As every year, the city center transforms into an open-air stage: amateur and professional musicians take over the streets, squares, and gardens for an evening of free and varied concerts, open to all.
Three Main Stages in the City Center
For the 2026 edition, the City is organizing or co-organizing three main stages set up in Cherbourg's emblematic squares:
- Place de Gaulle — the largest stage (approx. 45 m²)
- Place de la Poste — stage of approx. 42 m²
- Place Centrale — stage of approx. 24 m²
In addition to these stages, numerous spontaneous concert points are spread throughout the city center, animated by amateur artists who registered with the town hall.
A Musical Springboard for the Local Scene
New for 2026: the City is setting up a free musical springboard, open to local artists and groups from Cotentin (amateur to semi-professional level, all musical styles). A jury — composed of representatives from the Department of Live Performance, the events department, the Conservatoire de Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, local businesses, and the Deputy for Culture — selects 3 local artists or groups. The winners will perform the opening act on one of the City's three stages. Applications were to be submitted by May 29, 2026, via the City's online form.
Detailed Program
The complete map of concert points, band names, and performance times will be announced in spring 2026 on the website and social media channels of the City of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.

The Fête de la Musique in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin: a city in music
Each year, June 21st marks the summer solstice and the Fête de la Musique throughout France. In Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, this popular event transforms the maritime city into a vast open-air stage. Since the first national edition in 1982, the city has continuously grown this musical celebration, investing its squares, streets, parks, and gardens to host dozens of free concerts.
Iconic venues in music
The festivities unfold in the most emblematic places of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. The Emmanuel Liais park, a green setting in the heart of the city, hosts the students of the municipal Conservatory from the afternoon, presenting choirs, cello ensembles, and string orchestras. The Central square, the Phélippot Le Cat square, and the public garden become ephemeral stages where artists of all musical horizons perform.
An eclectic and participatory program
The spirit of the Fête de la Musique is based on spontaneity and sharing. The city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin opens its public spaces to amateur and professional artists who wish to perform freely, while respecting residents and other musicians. The formations are diverse: rock bands, jazz ensembles, choirs, brass bands, DJ sets, solo musicians, and dancers. The town hall establishes a map of concert locations to guide the public.
A festive evening for everyone
Dance performances at the town hall, hosted by the Cherbourg dance club, complete the musical program. The concerts continue into the evening with larger ensembles, such as invited choirs and regional bands. The entire program is free and open access, true to the original spirit of this popular festival initiated by Jack Lang in 1982. The Fête de la Musique is a moment of conviviality that brings together Cherbourg residents of all ages around a common passion for music.
