The national music celebration in the streets of Clermont-Ferrand
Every June 21st, the Fête de la Musique transforms Clermont-Ferrand into a huge open-air stage. From Place de Jaude to the alleys of old Clermont, via Place Saint-Pierre and the terraces of downtown bars, music resonates everywhere and for everyone. This national event, created in 1982 by Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, has become a must-attend event in Clermont's cultural life.
For each edition, the City of Clermont-Ferrand proposes a return to the fundamentals of the Fête de la Musique: without hierarchy of practices and genres, in order to unite a maximum of artists and talents during this great popular celebration. The original spirit of the festival is thus preserved, valuing spontaneity, diversity, and musical sharing.
The Fête de la Musique in Clermont-Ferrand celebrates music in all its diversity:
The Fête de la Musique takes over many iconic venues in Clermont-Ferrand:
One of the founding principles of the Fête de la Musique is its openness to all musicians, regardless of their level. In Clermont-Ferrand, amateur musicians are particularly encouraged to participate by setting up in the main downtown squares. No prior registration is required for artists wishing to play in the street: just find a spot and start playing.
The City of Clermont-Ferrand coordinates the organization of the Fête de la Musique in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture. The municipality provides stages, sound equipment, and ensures the safety of the event. Concert registrations are centralized on the national platform fetedelamusique.culture.gouv.fr.
The Fête de la Musique takes place throughout downtown Clermont-Ferrand.
