Free concerts throughout the city on June 21, 2026
Every June 21st, Bourges celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): amateur musicians, conservatory students, choirs, and professional artists play for free in the streets, squares, and gardens of the historic center. Inheriting the spirit of the Printemps de Bourges, the city of Cher offers a day that is entirely free and open to all, in the shadow of Saint-Étienne Cathedral.
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Bourges into an open-air stage every June 21st. Music freely takes over public spaces, from the afternoon until the heart of the night, across all genres and for all audiences. A city of music par excellence, marked by the legacy of the Printemps de Bourges, the prefecture of Cher cultivates a particular fondness for this great popular festival.
Usually, the festival unfolds in the classified old town: the Jardin des Prés Fichaux and its open-air theater, the Place Jacques Cœur at the foot of the palace, the gardens of the Archevêché, and the Calvin courtyard of the Augustins convent host open-air concerts, conservatory ensembles, brass bands, jazz, contemporary music, and choir nights. Bars and terraces in the center extend the festivities into the evening.
