Maritime tradition in Agde, Hérault
The Agde Fishermen's Festival is one of the great traditional events in the maritime life of Agde and Le Grau d'Agde, in the Hérault department, Occitanie. Celebrated in honor of Saint Peter, patron saint of fishermen, it perpetuates an ancient tradition centered around the community of seafarers.
Mainly organized around the Criée du Grau d'Agde and in the historic heart of Agde, the festival blends religious fervor, remembrance of sailors, and popular festivities. An emblematic highlight: the procession followed by the sea outing and the blessing of the boats, with the laying of wreaths in memory of lost sailors.
Each edition offers nautical jousts on the Hérault river, the traditional game tournament Lo Capelet, tastings of sardines and seafood, concerts, and fireworks. The full program is published annually by the City of Agde and the Saint-Pierre Festival Committee.
