Popular and gastronomic festival celebrating roasted pig in Estissac in the Aube region
The Fête du Cochon en Pays d'Othe is a popular and gastronomic institution that brings together over 4,000 visitors every last weekend of August at Parc Caroline in Estissac. Organized by the AIOO section of JSVPO (Jeunesse Sportive Vanne Pays d'Othe), the event celebrates the pig in all its forms: 22 roasted pigs from 5 am, artisanal black pudding, pig squeal contest for children and adults, and the famous "boudinomètre" for adults. Two days of free festivities with concerts, fireworks, a local producers' market, and flea market, and entertainment for the whole family.
For over twenty years, the Fête du Cochon en Pays d'Othe has established itself as one of the most convivial and gourmet popular events in the Aube department. Every last weekend of August, the Parc Caroline in Estissac transforms into a vast festival area where over 4,000 visitors come to celebrate the pig in all its forms. Organized by the AIOO (Animation Inter-villages de l'Orée d'Othe) section of the JSVPO (Jeunesse Sportive Vanne Pays d'Othe), this festival embodies the spirit of conviviality and sharing characteristic of the rural Champagne region.
The beating heart of the Fête du Cochon is, of course, pork gastronomy. From 5 am, the association's volunteers work to roast 22 whole pigs on spits, filling the park with irresistible aromas. The artisanal black pudding, made on-site in the purest charcuterie tradition, is the other star of the festival, available for sale and tasting. The giant barbecue, grilled meats, and pork-based specialties complete a generous and authentic gastronomic offering, accompanied by music and a festive atmosphere throughout the weekend.
Beyond gastronomy, the Fête du Cochon is also a meeting point for quirky and joyful entertainment. The pig squeal contest, open to both children and adults, is a moment of hearty laughter where everyone tries to imitate pig grunts as best as possible in front of an amused jury. The famous "boudinomètre", an event reserved for adults, tests the most courageous stomachs in a black pudding tasting challenge. These participatory and good-natured activities are the spice of this unique festival, where good humor reigns from morning to night.
The musical program sets the rhythm for the two days of festivities with varied concerts ranging from 80s-90s covers to festive bands and brass bands. On Saturday evening, spectacular fireworks light up the Estissac sky around 10:30 pm, beautifully concluding the first day. The local producers' market allows visitors to discover the flavors of the Pays d'Othe terroir, while a flea market attracts bargain hunters on Sunday morning. Inflatable structures, fairground games, and entertainment for children complete a festive and entirely free program.
The 25th edition of the Fête du Cochon en Pays d'Othe is expected in summer 2026 at Parc Caroline in Estissac. This anniversary edition will celebrate a quarter-century of conviviality and pork gastronomy. Program and dates to be confirmed.
