Gourmet celebration of the iconic dish of the Opal Coast in Le Portel
The Fête du Welsh is a gourmet event organized every summer in Le Portel, near Boulogne-sur-Mer. For a weekend, the town celebrates the welsh, an iconic dish of the Opal Coast made with cheddar melted in beer, served with ham and egg. All restaurants offer their version, while free entertainment on the beach and concerts enhance this popular festival, which has become a must-attend event on the coast.
The Fête du Welsh pays homage to the most iconic dish of the Opal Coast: the welsh. This hearty dish, made with cheddar melted in beer, is served on toast and traditionally accompanied by ham, a fried egg, and fries. In Le Portel, this popular delicacy is celebrated every summer over a festive and gourmet weekend.
Throughout the festival, all restaurants in Le Portel participate by featuring the welsh on their menus, for both lunch and dinner. Each establishment showcases its own recipe, sometimes traditional, sometimes revisited with original variations. It's an opportunity for food lovers to embark on a culinary tour of the restaurants and compare the different versions of this dish that has become a cult favorite in the Boulonnais region.
Alongside the tastings, Le Portel beach transforms into a festive area with free entertainment for families: inflatable games, carousels, play structures, and sports activities for children. This seaside entertainment complements the program and makes the Fête du Welsh a complete event, combining culinary pleasures with beachside leisure.
Concerts and musical entertainment punctuate the weekend, bringing a festive atmosphere to the streets and seafront of Le Portel. Local artists and bands perform for the delight of visitors, creating a warm and friendly ambiance typical of coastal festivals.
