Votive festival in Marguerittes, Gard
The Marguerittes Votive Festival is the major bullfighting and popular event in this commune in the Gard region, located a few kilometers from Nîmes in Occitanie. Organized by the Club Taurin La Bouvina (the oldest association in the commune, created in 1928) and the Office Municipal des Fêtes, it perpetuates Camargue traditions over several days, around the arenas and the village center.
The usual program includes: abrivados, bandidos, Camargue bull races (Course de l'Avenir, Course Ligue, Trophée des As final), taureaux piscine, pétanque competitions, musical aperitifs animated by a peña, tapas evenings, balls and DJs, a funfair, a meal for seniors, and mornings dedicated to children.
The Marguerittes Votive Festival is one of the major events of Camargue culture in the Gard. Organized by the Club Taurin La Bouvina, an association created in 1928, and the Office Municipal des Fêtes (OMF) of Marguerittes, it enlivens the village center and the municipal arenas for several days each summer.
Like most votive festivals in the Gard, the Marguerittes Votive Festival revolves around Camargue bullfighting events. The usual program includes abrivados (descent of bulls from Le Cailar or local manades towards the arenas), bandidos (return of bulls at the end of the day), Camargue bull races (Course de l'Avenir, Course Ligue, Trophée des As), taureaux piscine, and the famous matinée des Pitchouns dedicated to children.
The festival is also a great moment of village conviviality: pétanque competitions every afternoon, musical aperitifs on rue Biou Lou Rami animated by peñas, tapas evenings, balls with orchestras and DJs until 2 AM, a funfair, the Club des Aînés meal, and a closing meal. The handover of the commune's keys to young people, by the Mayor in front of the Town Hall, marks the official opening of the festival.
A pillar of Marguerittes' identity, the Club Taurin La Bouvina has been working since 1928 to perpetuate bullfighting traditions, to interest young people in Camargue spectacles, and to encourage the emergence of young raseteurs. It is the main association that programs the races and coordinates the abrivados of the votive festival, in partnership with the OMF and the Marguerittes Town Hall.
The 2026 edition of the Marguerittes Votive Festival will take place from Friday, July 24 to Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in the village center and at the arenas. Five days of bullfighting events, Camargue races, musical aperitifs, dances, and village conviviality, organized by the Club Taurin La Bouvina and the Municipal Festival Office (OMF) of Marguerittes.
The 2026 Marguerittes Votive Festival is officially scheduled from Friday, July 24 to Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The dates were confirmed by the municipality in its call for caterer applications published on January 2, 2025, and signed by the Municipal Councillor Delegate for Markets.
The organization follows the continuity of previous editions: daily abrivados and bandidos, Camargue races in the arenas (Course de l'Avenir, Course Ligue), bull pool, pétanque competition, Pitchouns' morning for children, musical aperitifs on rue Biou Lou Rami, dances and DJs in the evening, funfair, Club des Aînés meal, handover of the keys of the commune to young people by the Mayor, and closing meal by reservation.
The day-by-day program with precise timings, participating ganaderias, invited raseteurs, and scheduled orchestras will be published by the Municipal Festival Office and the Marguerittes Town Hall during July 2026, as every year.
