Final of the French Camargue Race Championship at the Nîmes Arena
The Trophée des As is the flagship competition of the Camargue race. Created in 1952 by Georges Thiel, Marius Gardiol, and Paul Laurent, it annually rewards the best raseteur of the bullfighting season. Its grand final traditionally takes place at the Nîmes arena (with a historical alternation with Arles), the highlight of the temporada.
The 2026 edition marks the 74th edition of this emblematic competition of Camargue culture.
Created in 1952 in Beaucaire — where the very first final, won by André Douleau, was held — the Trophée des As is the most prestigious individual competition of the Camargue race. The trophy annually rewards the raseteur who has distinguished himself the most during the season, following a cumulative ranking established over all qualifying races.
Since 1953, the grand final has been held alternately in the arenas of Nîmes and Arles, two emblematic temples of bouvine. At the Nîmes Arena, a classified Roman monument in the heart of the city, the final annually gathers nearly 8,000 spectators who come to witness the crowning of the best raseteur of the year and the parade of the most beautiful cocardiers of the season.
The Trophée des As is part of the bullfighting temporada calendar in the south of France. Beyond the final, the event is the culmination of an entire season of Camargue races contested in all the arenas of the region — from Arles to Beaucaire, from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence to Sommières. The best raseteurs face the cocardiers from the most prestigious Camargue manades, respecting a tradition whose roots date back to the 19th century.
Much more than a sporting competition, the Trophée des As is a major cultural event in Gard and Bouches-du-Rhône. The fervor of the aficionados, the elegance of the raseteurs in white, the charge of the cocardiers, tributes to historical figures of bouvine: each edition is a celebration of the living traditions of Provence and Languedoc.
The 74th final of the Trophée des As will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Nîmes arena. The highlight of the bullfighting temporada, this final crowns the best raseteur of the Camargue race season.
Announced in the official calendar of the 2026 Nîmes arena season, the Trophée des As final will take place on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Nîmes arena. This 74th edition will crown the best raseteur of the Camargue race season at the end of a cumulative ranking established over all qualifying races held in the arenas of Provence and Languedoc throughout the season.
The final brings together the best raseteurs of the moment, who compete against the most prestigious cocardiers from Camargue manades. The opening parade, the presentation of the cocardiers, the traditional acapellade, and then the six successive races make up a complete show of approximately three hours, faithful to a living tradition of the south of France.
An emblematic Roman monument, the Nîmes arena hosts this final alternately with Arles. Nearly 8,000 spectators are expected for this unmissable event of Camargue culture, organized by SCP France (Simon Casas Production) under delegation from the City of Nîmes.
