5 days of free popular celebration with rock, variety music, bandas and dancing in the heart of Tarn Noir
Every early August, the Fêtes de Brassac take over Place Belfortès for five days of entirely free popular festivities. Renamed Mescladis — Occitan for “mix” — they offer an eclectic program: rock and variety concerts, lively bandas, popular dancing, and family entertainment in this picturesque town nestled at the confluence of the Thoré and the Arn, in the heart of Tarn Noir.
The name says it all: Mescladis, an Occitan word meaning “mix,” is the affectionate nickname given to the Fêtes de Brassac, these five days of popular festivities that take over the medieval town of Tarn Noir every early August. A mix of musical genres, a mix of generations, a mix of audiences: the Fêtes de Brassac are a plural and generous celebration, open to all and entirely free.
The nerve center of the festivities is Place Belfortès, a large shaded square in the heart of Brassac. This is where the concert stages are set up, where the refreshment stands and food stalls are located, and where the public gathers each evening to enjoy the entertainment. This emblematic square of Brassac, framed by local architecture, offers an authentic and friendly setting for these popular festivities.
The *mescladis* character of the festival is reflected in the diversity of musical offerings:
The Fêtes de Brassac are not just for night owls: the daytime also offers family entertainment, stands from local associations, and a continuous festive atmosphere. Children can enjoy specially designed activities, while adults gather at café terraces or association refreshment stands to extend the conviviality of the evenings.
Brassac is a town of 1,200 inhabitants nestled at the confluence of the Thoré and the Arn, in the eastern part of Tarn nicknamed Tarn Noir (Black Tarn) due to its deep forests and wild gorges. Its medieval castle spanning the river, its ancient bridges, and its preserved urban fabric make it one of the most picturesque locations in the department.
This exceptional natural and heritage setting gives the Fêtes de Brassac a special charm: dancing in Place Belfortès with the castle towers in the background and the murmur of the Arn as a soundtrack is a unique festive experience in Tarn.
One of the pillars of the Fêtes de Brassac is their total freeness. All concerts, all entertainment, all shows are accessible without a ticket. This tradition of popular celebration accessible to all is defended with conviction by the organizers and local associations who dedicate hundreds of hours of volunteering each year to the event.
This freeness is also a guarantee of social inclusion: the Fêtes de Brassac bring together without exception the inhabitants of the town, neighboring villages, and passing tourists in Tarn Noir, creating a rare and precious festive communion.
The Fêtes de Brassac — Mescladis 2026 will be held in early August on Place Belfortès. This great festive mix, unique to Brassac, will once again bring together rock and variety concerts, thunderous bandas, popular dancing, and family entertainment in the pearl of Tarn Noir. Completely free access to all entertainment and concerts.
The Brassac Festival Committee is preparing a new edition of the Mescladis for early August 2026. On Place Belfortès, in the enchanting setting of the medieval town of Tarn Noir, five days of free popular celebration will once again bring together locals and visitors in a spirit of conviviality and sharing.
The 2026 program will maintain the mescladis spirit — “mix” in Occitan — which is the strength and charm of these festivities: rock concerts and variety shows, festive bandas in the streets, popular dancing, and family entertainment make up a program for all tastes and ages. And as every year, access will be completely free.
The Fêtes de Brassac — Mescladis take place mainly on and around Place Belfortès, in the heart of Brassac (81260). Other activities may take place in the adjacent streets and squares of the town center.
