About Saint-Vincent de Collioure

The Fêtes de la Saint-Vincent de Collioure are the traditional patronal festival of the "Cité des Peintres" (City of Painters), celebrating the return of the relics of Saint Vincent, the city's patron saint, since 1701. For five days in mid-August, Collioure vibrates to the rhythm of Catalan traditions between land and sea: llaguts de rems (Catalan rowing boats), water games, Jocs del Fissó, procession in the sea, sardanes, brass bands, concerts, and the spectacular fireworks on August 16th fired in the bay. The Festa Major on August 16th is the highlight of these festivities with the maritime procession and fireworks.

The Fêtes de la Saint-Vincent: The Soul of Collioure

Since 1701, the Fêtes de la Saint-Vincent have been the most anticipated event of the year in Collioure. This patronal festival commemorates the return of the relics of Saint Vincent, patron saint of the city and fishermen. According to tradition, Vincent was a 4th-century martyr and a fisherman, making him the natural patron saint of Collioure's maritime community.

Five Days of Celebration Between Land and Sea

The festivities open on August 14th with parades of brass bands and bandas through the streets of Collioure. August 15th, the Assumption Day, is marked by water games and demonstrations of llaguts de rems (traditional Catalan rowing boats) in the bay. The highlight of the festival is on August 16th, the Festa Major, with the procession in the sea — a moment of intense emotion — followed by the unmissable fireworks display fired in the bay around 10 PM, offering a magical and enchanting spectacle.

Traditions and Camaraderie

August 17th is dedicated to the Fête du Port d'Avall, and on August 18th, the festivities conclude with the Fête de l'Ermitage de Notre-Dame-de-Consolation. Throughout these five days, sardanes, concerts, Jocs del Fissó (traditional games), popular meals, and street entertainment punctuate the life of Collioure, in a spirit of sharing and camaraderie that has made these festivities famous.
