The Roman festival of Eauze, ancient Elusa
The Roman festival of Eauze, ancient Elusa, capital of Novempopulania, is a major summer event that brings to life the Gallo-Roman past of the Gascon city. Heir to the Festival Galop Romain en Gascogne created in 2003 and now organized by ELUSA Capitale Antique under the name Fête Romaine d'Elusa, the event brings together gladiators, legionaries, artisans, and live shows on the city's archaeological sites.
Capital of Novempopulania in Roman times, Eauze possesses a prominent Gallo-Roman heritage: the Domus de Cieutat, the Musée du Trésor d'Eauze and, nearby, the Villa de Séviac with its exceptional mosaics. Every summer, this past comes back to life for a weekend.
Launched in 2003 by volunteers under the name Festival Galop Romain en Gascogne, the event is now organized by ELUSA Capitale Antique and bears the name Fête Romaine d'Elusa. It traditionally takes place on the third weekend of July.
Historical reenactments, gladiator fights, legionary demonstrations, an artisans' village (ceramists, mosaicists, metallurgists), theatrical guided tours, ancient games, concerts of ancient instruments, and equestrian shows punctuate the event, for a festive immersion in Antiquity.
On July 18 and 19, 2026, Eauze brings its Gallo-Roman past back to life for a weekend with the Roman Festival of Elusa (formerly Festival Galop Romain en Gascogne). Historical reenactments, gladiators, legionaries, and an artisan village immerse young and old in the heart of Antiquity on the archaeological sites of ELUSA Capitale Antique.
