The Saint-Jean bonfires on the beaches of Collioure with sardanes and Catalan boats
The Fête de la Saint-Jean de Collioure is one of the most spectacular celebrations of Sant Joan night on the Côte Vermeille. Every June 23rd, the Catalan fishing port welcomes the flame of Canigou and offers a unique program combining sardanes with cobla, bonfires lit on the Faubourg and Boramar beaches, a parade of illuminated Catalan boats in the bay, a correfoc with devils and dragons, and a popular ball. A magical spectacle at the foot of Collioure's bell tower.
Every June 23rd, Collioure, one of the most beautiful villages on the Côte Vermeille, offers an exceptional setting for the celebration of the Feux de la Saint-Jean (Saint-Jean Bonfires). The night of Sant Joan transforms this Catalan fishing port into a spectacle of lights, fire, and music between the sea and the mountains.
In the afternoon, the flame of Canigou is officially received by the Mayor of Collioure on the Place du 18 Juin. The choir Campanar Sardanista sings traditional Catalan songs to welcome this sacred flame, which will be used to light the evening bonfires. Documentary films about the tradition of the Saint-Jean bonfires are screened at the municipal cinema.
The evening unfolds between the port, the Esplanade Bernadi, and Collioure's two beaches:
The most magical moment of the evening is undoubtedly the parade of illuminated Catalan boats gliding in the bay of Collioure between the two blazing beaches. The reflections of the flames on the water, the illuminated bell tower in the background, and the sounds of the cobla create a unique and unforgettable atmosphere.
