A friendly event organized by local associations to showcase this historic Burgundy vineyard.
Every May, the town hall square of Joigny (89300) transforms into a vast space for tasting and celebration for the Foire aux Vins. This friendly event celebrates the emblematic wines of Côte Saint-Jacques and the products of the Yonne region, in a town that was once one of Burgundy's premier wine-producing areas.
Joigny boasts one of Burgundy's northernmost vineyards. The Coteaux de Joigny appellation produces red and rosé wines from Pinot Noir, and a typical 'gris' wine that has been the town's reputation since the Middle Ages. The steep hillsides overlooking the Yonne River offer a clay-limestone terroir particularly conducive to the production of fine and delicate wines, recognized by Burgundy wine lovers.
The Foire aux Vins de Joigny offers a rich program over two days:
The Joigny vineyard extends over the hillsides overlooking the old medieval town of Joigny. Mentioned in texts from the 7th century, it reached its peak in the 19th century before declining in favor of the great Burgundy appellations. Today, a few passionate winemakers are continuing this tradition with confidential, high-quality vintages, including the famous 'vin gris de Joigny', with its pale pink hue and delicate fruity aromas.
The Foire aux Vins is held in the very heart of Joigny's old town, amidst the medieval alleys and half-timbered houses of the historic district. This remarkable architectural setting provides a unique stage for this event, which combines historical heritage, wine culture, and conviviality. Visitors can extend their stay by discovering the Saint-Thibault church, the Renaissance houses, and the panoramic views of the Yonne from the vineyard slopes.
The Foire aux Vins de Joigny returns in May 2026 to the town hall square for two days of free tastings, meetings with winemakers from Coteaux de Joigny, and discovery of the products of the Yonne region in the heart of the medieval old town.
