The European Heritage Days return to Haute-Garonne on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026. For a weekend, monuments, museums, religious buildings, and places usually closed to the public open their doors for free in Toulouse and throughout the department.
For their 43rd edition, the European Heritage Days are held throughout France on September 19 and 20, 2026, with a preview dedicated to school audiences on Friday, September 18. In Haute-Garonne, Toulouse and its metropolitan area traditionally offer between 150 and 200 places to visit.
On the program in Toulouse: the Basilica of Saint-Sernin, the Saint-Étienne Cathedral, the Jacobins Convent, the Roman amphitheater of Purpan-Ancely, Les Abattoirs, the Muséum, the Saint-Raymond Museum, the Departmental Archives, as well as many buildings usually closed to the public (prefecture, private mansions, industrial sites).
The 2026 edition highlights two national themes: the heritage of photography (on the occasion of the bicentenary of photography) and heritage in danger: revive, resist, reinvent.
The vast majority of visits and activities (guided tours, exhibitions, workshops, shows) are free. Some sites with limited capacity require prior reservation. The detailed program is usually published at the end of August on the official European Heritage Days website.
