About Hippodromes en Fête
Hippodromes en Fête — edition 2026
The "Hippodrome en fêtes" event returns on Sunday, August 23, 2026, to the Petit-Valençay racecourse in Châteauroux (Indre), for the first of the season's three trotting race meetings. A friendly afternoon combining horse racing and family entertainment, along the Indre river.
A day of family trotting races
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, the Société des Courses de Châteauroux opens the season at the Petit-Valençay racecourse with the first of its three meetings of the year (the next two being scheduled for Sundays, September 13 and 27, 2026). On the program: harness and ridden trotting races, in a green riverside setting, in the heart of Châteauroux.
Entertainment and conviviality
Beyond the races, the racecourse aims to be a family outing destination: games and entertainment for children (with prizes to be won) punctuate the afternoon between races, while parents enjoy the day. On-site catering (full menu by reservation, fast food, ice cream, crêpes, refreshment stand) and a large free car park complete the public's welcome.

A historic racecourse since 1883
The Petit-Valençay racecourse, located in a green setting on the banks of the Indre river in the heart of Châteauroux, hosts the Hippodromes en Fête event every year. The Société des Courses de Châteauroux, founded in 1883, is one of the oldest local associations in the region. It organizes three trotting and mounted horse racing meetings each year on its 1,750-meter grass track with a right-hand rail.
A festive day for the whole family
The Hippodromes en Fête event, coordinated by the Fédération des Courses Hippiques du Centre-Est, brings together 14 racecourses in the region in a festive and family-friendly approach. In Châteauroux, this summer day offers a rich program combining horse racing and various activities: children's games, photo booth, fun derby, game consoles, an animal welfare stand, and virtual reality.
Prestigious races
The horse racing program includes a regional Quarté with several prestigious races: Prix de La Châtre, Prix Facile à Louer, Prix de Déols, Prix des 3 Mousquetaires, Prix Race and Care, Prix du Conseil Départemental, and Prix Louis Pinton. The trotting and mounted races take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., offering a quality sporting spectacle in a friendly atmosphere.
A welcoming setting
The Petit-Valençay racecourse has welcoming facilities with accessible grandstands, catering and refreshment areas, as well as shaded rest areas under the lime trees. The event is managed by a team of passionate volunteers with the support of the municipal services of Châteauroux Métropole, who have been helping to keep this local horse racing heritage alive for over 140 years.
