The family kite festival on Houlgate beach
Since 2001, the Houlgate Plein Vent festival has been making people look up to the sky every spring on the magnificent Houlgate beach, on the Côte Fleurie in Calvados. This free family festival has become a must-attend event for kite enthusiasts and families, offering a colorful and moving spectacle facing the English Channel.
The program features kite demonstrations with ever more extravagant and original shapes—dragons, giant animals, abstract figures—that invade the Norman sky. The acrobatic kite championships pit the best pilots in the discipline against each other. Initiations allow beginners to try their hand at kite flying under the guidance of experienced enthusiasts.
The festival presents several aerial and maritime disciplines: kites of all specialties (acrobatic, artistic, dragon kites), but also kitesurfing, paragliding, sailing, sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and coastal walking. A complete program of outdoor activities by the sea for the whole family.
Admission is free and the atmosphere is resolutely family-oriented. Food and drinks are available on site. The festival welcomes thousands of visitors each year to admire the aerial show in an exceptional seaside setting.
The Houlgate Plein Vent festival returns for its 26th edition on April 11th and 12th, 2026, on Houlgate beach. The sky of the Côte Fleurie will once again be filled with spectacularly shaped kites for a colorful and family-friendly weekend.
The program includes kite demonstrations of all specialties, acrobatic kite championships, initiations for beginners, and various water activities. Free admission, on-site catering.
