The scallop celebrated on the fishing port of Courseulles-sur-Mer
Every year in November, the fishing port of Courseulles-sur-Mer celebrates the start of the scallop season with a premier gastronomic event. The Festival of the Scallop, Seafood and Gastronomy transforms the Quai des Alliés into a large market dedicated to maritime flavors, attracting thousands of visitors eager to taste this gem of Norman cuisine.
The « Cuisine en Duo » culinary workshops, led by local chefs, are a highlight of the festival. Participants learn to prepare refined scallop recipes: roasted scallops with sweet potato puree and lime emulsion on Saturday, scallop ceviche with citrus and crunchy salad on Sunday. Tasting stands offer scallops in all their forms: raw, pan-seared, gratinated, or on skewers.
The market brings together fishermen, oyster farmers, and producers from the Calvados coast, offering fresh scallops, oysters, mussels, shrimp, and fish. Entertainment includes photo exhibitions, dog sport demonstrations, concerts, visits to the SNSM lifeboat, and workshops for children.
Beyond the gastronomic aspect, the festival pays tribute to the fishermen of Courseulles-sur-Mer and the Côte de Nacre who, every winter, set sail to fish for scallops in the waters of the English Channel. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Caen Normandy supports this event, which contributes to the influence of the local maritime sector.
The Scallop, Seafood and Gastronomy Festival returns on November 21st and 22nd, 2026 on the Quai des Alliés, at the fishing port of Courseulles-sur-Mer. On the program: seafood market, gourmet demonstrations and tastings by a chef, scallop shucking competition, « Cooking in Duo » parent/child workshops, concerts and entertainment for the whole family. Free access to entertainment, the market, and stands.
On November 21st and 22nd, 2026, the fishing port of Courseulles-sur-Mer celebrates the opening of the Saint-Jacques scallop season on the Quai des Alliés. Fishermen and seafood professionals offer beautiful Saint-Jacques scallops for sale and tasting, as well as other crustaceans and fish from the Calvados coast.
Throughout the weekend, a chef will host culinary demonstrations and gourmet tastings. The public can participate in the scallop shucking competition, which tests speed and skill in a friendly atmosphere. The « Cooking in Duo » parent/child workshops, supervised by a local chef, offer the chance to prepare Saint-Jacques scallop-based recipes together: roasted Saint-Jacques scallops, sweet potato puree and lime emulsion on Saturday, Saint-Jacques scallop ceviche with citrus fruits and crunchy salad on Sunday.
The festival also offers a gourmet market, musical entertainment (sea shanties, concerts), photo exhibitions, visits to the SNSM vessel, and workshops for children. A gourmet and family event that pays tribute to the fishermen of the Côte de Nacre.
