Itinérances - Festival de Cinéma is a must-attend event in the cultural life of Alès and the Gard department, in Occitanie. Since its creation in 1983 by the Itinérances association, this festival has established itself as one of the major cinematic events in the south of France, attracting a loyal and curious audience every spring (nearly 43,000 admissions during the 2025 edition).
A demanding and popular festival
For about ten days, Itinérances offers a rich program combining premieres, unreleased films seeking distributors, re-releases of restored films, an annual thematic retrospective, tributes to personalities of the 7th art, and carte blanche screenings. The Francophone short film competition is one of the highlights of each edition, alongside a rich youth program, school screenings, and arrangements adapted for audiences with sensory disabilities.
An event rooted in its territory
The festival takes place in several locations in Alès and promotes cinema from the Occitanie region through a “Films en région” selection and partnerships with Occitanie Films and Arte. Each year, the Itinérances Prize is awarded to an emblematic personality of cinema, close to the values promoted by the association.

Ten days of cinema centered around the thematic retrospective « Les Magnifiques ! », with previews, unreleased films, re-releases of restored films, a competition for French-language short films, tributes, meetings, and a rich program for young audiences.

The 44th edition of the Alès Cinema Festival — Itinérances takes place from Friday, March 20 to Sunday, March 29, 2026 in Alès, in the Gard department. For ten days, the Itinérances association offers a rich selection: previews, unreleased films, re-releases of restored films, the annual thematic retrospective called « Les Magnifiques ! », tributes, carte blanche screenings, and a competition for French-language short films.
A uniquely formatted edition
Due to renovation work at Le Cratère — Scène nationale d'Alès, the 2026 edition is adapted: some screenings will be held at the Théâtre Éphémère set up by the City of Alès and Alès Agglomération, in addition to the usual venues (Cineplanet, Capitole, Médiathèque Alphonse-Daudet). The ticket office, reception, and associative bar areas are located at Place des Martyrs-de-la-Résistance.
Highlights
The festival hosts Arte events (previews of Arte productions), the selection « Films en région » dedicated to Occitanie cinema, « La Nouvelle Itinérance » (a selection curated by young cinephiles), school screenings, adapted provisions for audiences with sensory disabilities, as well as cine-concerts and exhibitions. The Itinérances 2026 Award is presented to an emblematic figure of cinema.

From March 20 to 29, 2026 — announced highlights
- Friday, March 20 — Festival opening. Meeting with photographer Patrice Terraz at the Médiathèque Alphonse-Daudet (11 AM, exhibition visible from March 10 to 31).
- Friday, March 27 (from 6 PM) — « Magnifiques et fières ! » evening at the Théâtre Éphémère du Cratère: three films about freedom, rebellion, and queer pride, followed by an air guitar competition hosted by French champion Médusa Hendricks.
- Presentation of the Itinérances 2026 Award — to an emblematic figure of cinema, followed by a screening (ceremony scheduled for the second part of the festival).

Locations
The festival is held in several locations in Alès (30100). In 2026, due to renovation work at the Scène nationale, screenings will take place at the Théâtre Éphémère du Cratère, Cineplanet, Capitole, and Médiathèque Alphonse-Daudet. Ticket offices, reception, and the associative bar are located at Place des Martyrs-de-la-Résistance.
Access
Alès is accessible by train (Alès SNCF station) and by road. Parking is available near the various venues.
