Jazz à Barraux: Jazz at the heart of Fort Barraux
Since 2018, the Jazz à Barraux festival has been resonating with jazz within the walls of Fort Barraux, an impressive fortress in Grésivaudan overlooking the Isère valley. Driven by the association Itinéraire Bis, this 100% associative festival has quickly established itself as a must-attend musical event in the Grésivaudan valley.
An exceptional heritage setting
Fort Barraux, a historic monument located on the heights of the commune of Barraux, offers a unique setting for hosting jazz concerts. This fortress, with a history dating back to the 16th century, combines military heritage and remarkable acoustics, creating a singular atmosphere that enhances the audience's musical experience. The festival utilizes the various spaces of the fort to offer concerts in varied and intimate configurations.
A demanding and accessible jazz program
Jazz à Barraux offers a program that covers the entire spectrum of jazz: from classic jazz to contemporary jazz, including swing, bebop, and current creations. The festival favors regional and national artists, providing a showcase for the vibrant and creative jazz scene. Each edition features several evenings of concerts, allowing the public to discover different facets of jazz.
A family-friendly and participatory festival
Jazz à Barraux stands out for its family-friendly and participatory dimension. Beyond the concerts, the festival offers vocal workshops open to all, family musical walks in the communes of Grésivaudan, and shows for young audiences that introduce children to jazz. These complementary activities make the festival a true intergenerational cultural event.
Affordable prices
With prices ranging from 5 to 20 euros for full price and discounts for families, as well as free admission for under 12s, Jazz à Barraux affirms its commitment to making jazz accessible to the widest possible audience. This pricing policy reflects the associative and volunteer spirit that drives the festival.
A reach throughout the Grésivaudan
The festival is not limited to Fort Barraux: concerts and shows are organized in the surrounding communes of Grésivaudan, bringing jazz closer to the residents. The festival also collaborates with the ARTIS association to offer exhibitions at Fort Barraux, enriching the event's cultural offerings. A concert season is also planned outside the festival period, extending the musical activity throughout the year.
