Street theater, circus, and live performance festival in the open air in Estagel
Every summer, the village of Estagel, nestled in the Agly valley in the heart of the Pyrénées-Orientales wine region, hosts the Jours de Théâtre, a live performance festival that transforms its streets, squares, and landscapes into open-air stages. Since its creation, the festival has grown to become a must-attend cultural event in the department.
Each year, the festival programs nearly thirty shows blending street theater, contemporary circus, dance, music, and visual arts. Professional companies take over the most unusual spots in the village: wine cellars, shady squares, narrow alleys, and terraces overlooking the vineyards. The majority of performances take place outdoors, offering a unique experience to spectators.
Beyond the shows, the Jours de Théâtre offers free workshops in dance and singing open to all levels, for both children and adults. These moments of sharing and learning allow the public to discover performing arts in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Shows specifically designed for young audiences complete the program.
A festival market accompanies the performances, offering local products, crafts, and food. The warm and family-friendly atmosphere of the festival reflects the spirit of the village, where locals and visitors come together to share their love for live performance and Catalan culture.
Organized by the Ligue de l'Enseignement des Pyrénées-Orientales (FOL 66) in partnership with the municipality of Estagel, the festival is part of an initiative to provide access to culture for all in rural areas. It contributes to revitalizing the cultural life of this wine-growing region and showcasing Catalan heritage through performing arts.
The 17th edition of the Jours de Théâtre festival is expected in the summer of 2026 in Estagel and Montner. The festival will once again feature professional theater, dance, music, and circus companies, as well as local product markets. Detailed program to come.
