When music meets laughter in Haguenau
Since 1993, L'Humour des Notes has made Haguenau the Alsatian capital of live performance blending music and humor. For nine days in May, over 100 shows take over the theater, streets, children's village, and neighboring towns. Street artists, international musical theater companies, clowns, circus performers, and brass bands parade before thousands of spectators. This festival, supported by the Relais culturel de Haguenau, is a unique popular and family celebration in the Grand Est region.
Created in 1993 by the Relais culturel de Haguenau, the L'Humour des Notes festival has become, over thirty years, an emblematic event on the Alsatian cultural scene. Every May, for nine days, Haguenau transforms into a vast open-air theater where music and humor combine in every imaginable form.
The festival's ambition is staggering: to offer over 100 performances in venues and on the streets, blending musical theater, clowning, circus, brass bands, street performance, quirky concerts, and shows for young audiences. The invited companies come from France, Europe, and around the world, bringing artistic universes that are as varied as they are surprising. The range extends from intimate solos to grand street spectacles, from the most refined music to the wildest farce.
One of L'Humour des Notes' strengths is its occupation of the entire urban space of Haguenau. The Relais culturel theater hosts indoor performances, while Chapit'Γ β the children's village β offers a dedicated program for families under a big top. In the streets, squares, and parks of the city, dozens of free street performances surprise passersby throughout the day. The festival also extends its programming to the neighboring towns of the agglomeration.
L'Humour des Notes cultivates a spirit of popular and family celebration. The children's village (Chapit'Γ) offers shows suitable for ages 2 and up. The numerous free street animations allow everyone to enjoy the festival without budget constraints. It is this accessibility, combined with the artistic quality of the programming, that makes this festival unique and successful in Alsace.
Over the years, L'Humour des Notes has built a national reputation in the field of quirky live performance. The most creative companies in musical theater and humor find an enthusiastic audience and an ideal platform here. The festival has become a must-visit for artists exploring the boundaries between music, theater, and humor.
