When music meets laughter in Haguenau
Since 1991, L'Humour des Notes has made Haguenau the Alsatian capital of live performance, blending music and humor. For ten days in May, around Ascension Week, over 200 artists take over the Relais culturel theater, the streets, the Chapit'Ô (children's village), and neighboring towns in the agglomeration. French, European (Netherlands, Belgium), and Quebecois companies, musical theater, aerial circus, clowns, brass bands, and street performances follow one another before thousands of spectators. 95% of the performances are free to access, making it a unique popular and family festival in the Grand Est region, supported by the Relais culturel de Haguenau.
Created in 1991 by the Relais culturel de Haguenau, the L'Humour des Notes festival has become, in over thirty years, an emblematic event of the Alsatian cultural scene. Every year around Ascension Week, for ten days, Haguenau transforms into a vast open-air theater where music and humor combine in every imaginable form.
The festival's ambition is dizzying: over 230 indoor and outdoor events, blending musical theater, clowning, aerial circus, brass bands, street performance, offbeat concerts, and shows for young audiences. Invited companies come from France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and even Quebec, bringing artistic worlds as varied as they are surprising. The range extends from intimate solo acts to grand street spectacles, from the most refined musical sophistication to the most unbridled farce.
One of the strengths of L'Humour des Notes is its investment in the entire urban space of Haguenau. The Relais culturel theater hosts indoor shows, while the Chapit'Ô — the children's village — offers a program dedicated to families under a big top. In the streets, squares, parks, and even the Haguenau forest (Gros Chêne), dozens of free street performances surprise passersby throughout the day. The festival also extends its programming to neighboring towns in the agglomeration.
L'Humour des Notes cultivates a spirit of popular and family celebration. The children's village (Chapit'Ô) offers shows suitable for the youngest ages with a single ticket price of 5 €. The numerous free street activities allow everyone to enjoy the festival without budget constraints: 95% of the programming is free to access. It is this accessibility, combined with the artistic quality of the programming, that makes this unique festival in Alsace so distinctive and successful.
Over the editions, L'Humour des Notes has built a national reputation in the sector of unconventional live performance. The most creative companies in musical theater and humor find an enthusiastic audience and an ideal setting for dissemination. The festival has become a must-attend event for artists exploring the boundaries between music, theater, and humor, and is among the major events of the Collectivité européenne d'Alsace.
