Contemporary theater meets youth
Created in 2004 by the association La Mousson d'été, La Mousson d'hiver is an annual contemporary theater festival held every March at the Abbaye des Prémontrés in Pont-à-Mousson, Meurthe-et-Moselle. This event is the winter and educational component of La Mousson d'été, a summer festival dedicated to contemporary theatrical writing that has existed since 1995.
A rich and engaging program
For two to three days, La Mousson d'hiver offers an ambitious program combining professional shows, staged readings, dramatic writing workshops, and meetings with authors and directors. The texts address societal and current issues through new writings, offering young audiences privileged access to contemporary creation.
Theatrical practice workshops
One of the festival's pillars is its practical workshops led by theater professionals. Participating high school and university students are invited to take the stage to give voice to contemporary texts, thus experiencing the theatrical creation process from the inside. These voice performances by the young people are presented to the festival audience.
Professional shows and readings
The festival also features performances and readings by professional companies, allowing audiences to discover recent texts by French-speaking and international playwrights. These theater events are followed by discussions and exchanges between the artists and the public.
An exceptional heritage setting
The Abbaye des Prémontrés, a 18th-century historical monument located on the banks of the Moselle River, provides a remarkable setting for these theatrical encounters. Its vaulted halls, cloister, and reception areas create an inspiring space where architectural heritage and contemporary creation dialogue harmoniously.
An educational and cultural network
La Mousson d'hiver relies on a network of partnerships with secondary and higher education institutions in Lorraine, the DRAC Grand Est, the Région Grand Est, and the Département de Meurthe-et-Moselle. This network reaches several hundred young spectators and participants each year, contributing to the democratization of access to contemporary theater.
