La Transjurassienne: The Legendary Cross-Country Ski Race of the Jura

Created in 1979, La Transjurassienne is the largest cross-country ski race in France and one of the most prestigious events on the international Worldloppet circuit. Every February, thousands of cross-country skiers set off on the snowy trails of the Haut-Jura to experience a unique sporting adventure between Lamoura and Les Rousses.

A Legendary Course in the Heart of the Haut-Jura

Historically, La Transjurassienne offered a linear 70 km course crossing the Jura massif from Lamoura to Mouthe, in the Doubs region. Due to climatic uncertainties and increasing snow shortages, organizers have adapted the format in recent years by offering secured loops of 50 and 25 km around Lamoura and Les Rousses, guaranteeing optimal snow conditions thanks to the altitude and the site's exposure.

Events for All Levels

La Transjurassienne offers several race formats:

  • La Transjurassienne (50 km): The main event, open to experienced skiers.
  • La Transju' 25 km: An accessible format for intermediate skiers.
  • La Transju' Rando 25 km: A non-timed event, open to all, to discover cross-country skiing in a hiking mode.
  • Classic and Skating Style Events: Races take place over two days, with classic on Saturday and skating on Sunday.

An Event of International Renown

As a member of Worldloppet, the global circuit of popular cross-country ski races, La Transjurassienne attracts participants from all over Europe and the world. The event brings together elite skiers, passionate amateurs, and weekend athletes in a festive and friendly atmosphere. In 2025, despite a fallback course of 40 km around La Darbella in Les Rousses, nearly 2,000 participants started.

The Challenges of Climate Change

For several years, La Transjurassienne has been facing the effects of climate change on snow cover in the Jura massif. The race has been canceled eight times in its history (1979, 1990, 1993, 2001, 2007, 2016, 2020, and 2024) due to insufficient snow. The organizers, true to their commitment to natural snowfall, adapt the course each year to ensure optimal race conditions while respecting the mountain environment.

La Transju': More Than a Race, an Event

Beyond the race, La Transjurassienne is a true popular event that animates the Haut-Jura for an entire February weekend. Start village, entertainment, food, music, and a festive atmosphere accompany the runners and their supporters. The event is organized by the association La Transju', which also coordinates the Transju'Trail in the summer and the Transju'Cyclo.
