Festival of world voices at the Château de Rochechouart
Since 2002, Labyrinthe de la Voix has explored the voice in all its forms at the foot of the Château de Rochechouart, in Haute-Vienne. This unique festival in Nouvelle-Aquitaine offers a musical journey each summer, blending world music, traditional chants, polyphonies, and vocal creations, in a heritage setting overlooking the Grêne valley. From enchanted evenings in the castle alleys to acoustic mornings in the forest, the festival offers an immersive and intimate experience.
Created in 2002 in Rochechouart, Labyrinthe de la Voix is a unique festival that places the human voice at the heart of its programming. Set in the majestic grounds of the Château de Rochechouart, a 13th-century building perched above the confluence of the Grêne and Vayres rivers, the festival has, over the years, woven a deep connection between heritage, landscape, and musical creation.
Each summer, for four days at the end of July, Labyrinthe de la Voix invites artists from diverse backgrounds: world music, traditional Basque, Breton, and Occitan chants, polyphonies, flamenco, contemporary music, and modern creations. The 2025 edition, the festival's 22nd, hosted iconic artists such as Manau, Tri Yann, Anne Etchegoyen, Perqué Pas, Les Cop(i)nes, Gil Horvath, and the Ensemble Vocal Marie Nodier (34 choristers) for a memorable closing evening.
The festival is distinguished by its unique formats. The Mornings in the Forest offer entirely acoustic concerts at the foot of the Chêne de Bramefan, a three-hundred-year-old tree in the heart of the Rochechouart forest, with free access. The evenings unfold in the illuminated alleys of the castle, with the valley as a backdrop and the trees as natural decor. A village of local artisans and producers completes this cultural and gastronomic immersion.
Supported by the Labyrinthe de la Voix association and a team of passionate volunteers, the festival has become a must-attend summer event in Haute-Vienne. It contributes to the cultural influence of Rochechouart, a medieval town already famous for its contemporary art museum and its meteorite crater. Labyrinthe de la Voix proves that a human-scale festival can offer unforgettable moments of musical grace.
