Alternative music festival with free outdoor concerts in Haute-Loire
Les Alternatives Live is an alternative music festival created in 2008 in Brives-Charensac, Haute-Loire, by the association L'Alternative. For its first edition, in September 2008, the festival offered free outdoor concerts in a small village in Haute-Loire, accompanied by various activities, as well as four indoor concerts in the evening. Camping was free for the entire weekend. Driven by a friendly and alternative spirit, the event aimed to promote rock, punk, and alternative music in a rural and accessible setting. The festival is no longer active today.
Created in 2008 in Brives-Charensac, a commune in Haute-Loire located near Le Puy-en-Velay, the Les Alternatives Live festival was born from the desire of the association L'Alternative to offer an alternative and accessible music event in a rural area of Auvergne. For its first edition, on September 26 and 27, 2008, the festival took over a small village in Haute-Loire with an original formula combining free outdoor concerts, activities, and indoor evening concerts.
The philosophy of Les Alternatives Live was based on accessibility and sharing. During the day, free outdoor concerts allowed everyone to enjoy music in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Various activities punctuated the day, creating a true moment of collective life around alternative music and culture. In the evening, four indoor concerts took over for more intense performances, featuring bands from the rock, punk, and alternative scene.
The festival offered free camping for the entire weekend, encouraging festival-goers to fully experience the event over several days. This free camping, combined with free outdoor concerts, demonstrated the organizers' commitment to making culture accessible to the greatest number of people, in a community and alternative spirit characteristic of independent festivals.
Although Les Alternatives Live did not last beyond its initial editions, the festival contributed to establishing the alternative music scene in Brives-Charensac, a town recognized as one of the most rock-oriented in the Haute-Loire department. Today, the town hosts other musical events supported by dynamic local associations, perpetuating this spirit of live and alternative music that animated Les Alternatives Live. The association L'Alternative, organizer of the festival, participated in this local cultural vibrancy by keeping rock, punk, and alternative music alive in the Puy-en-Velay region.
The Les Alternatives Live festival was held in Brives-Charensac (43700), a town bordering Le Puy-en-Velay in Haute-Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Outdoor concerts took place in the village, while the four evening concerts were held indoors.
The festival offered free camping on-site for the duration of the weekend, allowing festival-goers to fully enjoy the event without accommodation constraints.
Food stalls and refreshment points were available on the festival site throughout the weekend.
The Les Alternatives Live festival is no longer active. The information above corresponds to past editions of the event. To discover current festivals in Brives-Charensac, check out the festivals Loir'en Zic and Les Nuits Basaltiques.
