Flower and plant festival in one of France's Most Beautiful Villages
Every second weekend of May, the village of Saint-Jean-de-Côle, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, transforms into a vast open-air garden to host its famous Floralies. Since 1982, this event has been organized by an association of local volunteers, who adorn every corner of the medieval town — half-timbered houses, a 15th-century bridge, a Renaissance castle, a 12th-century Romanesque church.
Around sixty exhibitors (up to over 100 depending on the edition) — nurserymen, horticulturists, and craftsmen — present their productions in the village streets, in the vaulted rooms of the Château de la Marthonie (15th-17th century) and in the 12th-century Romanesque church. You'll find flowers, perennial plants, vegetable plants, shrubs, rose bushes, rare plants and floral novelties, as well as garden decoration items and artisanal creations. Exhibitors offer their advice on how to choose and care for your plants.
The Floralies attract several thousand visitors each year — up to 10,000 according to the busiest editions — and have established themselves as one of the major floral events in the South-West, followed by garden enthusiasts from all over France. The castle and the church also host floral and photographic exhibitions. Pastry, sandwich, and refreshment stands complete the offer. As this weekend is one of the most sought-after of the season in Périgord Vert, it is recommended to book your accommodation in advance.
The Floralies de Saint-Jean-de-Côle were held on Saturday, May 9th and Sunday, May 10th, 2026 in this medieval village classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. The edition's theme was 'Hanging Gardens', showcased in the floral arrangements adorning the streets, the vaulted rooms of the Château de la Marthonie, and the 12th-century Romanesque church.
About sixty exhibitors — nurserymen, horticulturists, and craftspeople — presented flowers, perennial plants, shrubs, rare plants, rose bushes, and artisanal garden creations. The castle and church also hosted floral and photographic exhibitions. Catering available on site (pastries, sandwiches, refreshment stand).
