Free medieval festival in Ballon-Saint-Mars, Sarthe
The Fols Journées de Ballon-Saint-Mars is a free medieval festival that takes place in Sarthe, at the foot of Ballon's medieval keep. Béhourd fights, medieval camp, falconry show, music and songs, fire-eater, medieval market, and banquet: three days of immersion in the heart of the Middle Ages, for young and old alike.
For its very first edition, in July 2026, the Les Fols Journées festival takes over the commune of Ballon-Saint-Mars and its 11th-century keep to revive the atmosphere of a medieval city. The event brings together re-enactment troupes, fighters, and artists around a program that is both spectacular and family-friendly.
On the program: béhourd fights (medieval martial art in armor), a medieval camp where visitors discover daily life of the era, music and song shows, an impressive falconry show at the foot of the keep, a fire-eater, and a medieval market gathering artisans and stalls. An area dedicated to children and families completes the picture, and an animated medieval banquet is offered by reservation.
The first edition of Les Fols Journées de Ballon-Saint-Mars will be held from July 10th to 12th, 2026. A free medieval festival around the keep of Ballon, combining fights, shows, a market, and a banquet.
For its first edition, the festival will notably offer:
Location: Ballon-Saint-Mars (72290), in the heart of the village, around the medieval keep.
Dates: from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Free admission to the festival.
The animated medieval banquet is available by reservation with the organizer (association Les Fols Journées de Ballon-Saint-Mars).
