About Medievales de Villebois-Lavalette

The Journees Medievales au Chateau de Villebois-Lavalette are organized each summer by the association Les Amis du Chateau et du Patrimoine de Villebois-Lavalette, within the walls of the castle, a listed historic monument. For two weekends in August, the 11th-century castle is transformed into a real medieval village with theatrical tours, weapons and armor workshops, calligraphy, heraldry, an immersive experience, period crafts, and a nighttime show called Legendes, presented by the Estocade company.

A journey back in time at the Chateau de Villebois-Lavalette

Each summer, the Chateau de Villebois-Lavalette, an 11th-century fortress classified as a historic monument, opens its doors for two weekends of exceptional medieval festivities. Organized by the association Les Amis du Chateau et du Patrimoine de Villebois-Lavalette, these days immerse young and old in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, in the heart of a site overlooking the Charente valley and countryside.

Medieval entertainment for the whole family

The Journees Medievales program includes theatrical tours of the castle, educational workshops on weapons and armor, heraldry, and calligraphy. An immersive experience allows visitors to discover daily life in the Middle Ages. Period craftspeople showcase their ancestral skills and offer continuous demonstrations.

The Legendes show by the Estocade company

The highlight of the event, the nighttime show Legendes, created and performed by the Estocade company, retraces the history of chivalry through legendary swords. This narrative and family-friendly show, presented in the evening, offers a magical experience in the exceptional setting of the illuminated castle. Performances take place on Friday and Saturday evenings of both weekends.
