The friendliest and most festive marathon in France, in the heart of the Cognac vineyards
The Marathon du Cognac is a major sporting event held annually in November, starting from Jarnac, on the banks of the Charente. Created in 2002 by the Association Marathon du Cognac, it has established itself over the years as one of the friendliest and most festive marathons in France, combining athletic performance with the discovery of the Charente terroir.
The marathon course (42.195 km) winds through the Cognac vineyards, aging cellars, and heritage sites of the Charente valley, between Angoulême and Cognac. Runners cross the bridge over the Charente between Jarnac and Gondeville before setting off through a landscape of rolling vineyards. Gastronomic refreshment stops punctuate the course, offering local specialties and tastings, in a festive spirit that sets this event apart from other marathons.
The Marathon du Cognac offers four races suitable for all levels: the marathon (42.195 km), the half-marathon (21.097 km), the 10.5 km, and the 5 km. The time limit to complete the marathon is 6 hours 30 minutes, allowing all participants, from elite runners to amateurs, to experience this unique event. In 2025, the 24th edition brought together 4,700 runners, and the marathon was won by Hugo Le Poulard in 2h27'21.
The event takes place over a full weekend, with bib collection on Friday and Saturday, the main races on Saturday and Sunday, and an entertainment village offering a buffet, massages, showers, and shuttle services. The Marathon du Cognac has become a must-attend event for runners and food lovers in Charente.
The 25th edition of the Cognac Marathon takes place on the weekend of November 13, 14, and 15, 2026, starting from Jarnac, on the banks of the Charente. The main races are held on Saturday, November 14, with the marathon, half-marathon, 10.5 km, and 5 km, in the heart of the Cognac vineyard.
For its 25th edition, the Cognac Marathon brings together several thousand runners in Jarnac to cover a slightly hilly route between the Charente and the Cognac vineyards. The course runs along the riverbanks, crosses Charentais villages such as Gondeville and Graves-Saint-Amant, and includes passages through cellars accompanied by tastings, in the spirit of conviviality that makes the event famous.
The 2026 edition offers the marathon (42.195 km), the half-marathon (21.097 km), the 10.5 km, and the 5 km, as well as a corporate relay challenge and children's races. Registrations are made online via the SportsNConnect platform, accessible from the official website.
The event spans the entire weekend: bib collection and pasta party on Friday, main races on Saturday, November 14, followed by a gourmet hike and entertainment on Sunday. An entertainment village (Charentais aperitif, awards ceremony, concerts and brass bands along the route) accompanies runners throughout the event.
