An exceptional castle as a setting
The Château de Bonaguil, a listed Historic Monument and considered one of the most beautiful fortified castles in France, offers a spectacular setting for the Médiévales. Built between the 13th and 16th centuries on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Lémance valley, this fortress with thirteen towers provides a natural and authentic backdrop that immediately immerses visitors in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.
A weekend of medieval immersion
For two days, the Médiévales de Bonaguil offer a complete immersion into the medieval world. Within the castle walls, visitors can discover reconstructed encampments, artisans practicing ancient crafts, and numerous interactive activities.
Workshops and activities
The program includes many activities accessible to all:
- Participatory workshops: calligraphy, archery, blacksmithing, illumination
- Combat demonstrations with swords and medieval military techniques
- Historical encampments with reconstructions of daily life in the Middle Ages
- Medieval market bringing together about twenty exhibitors: artisans, merchants, and craftspeople
- Free and guided tours of the castle throughout the day
The evening show in the moats
The unmissable highlight of the Médiévales is the Saturday evening show in the castle moats. For two hours, performance troupes offer a grand show combining theatrical sketches, music, choreographed combat, and fire performances. This unique show, specially created for the Médiévales, takes place in the exceptional setting of the illuminated castle moats. Booking is highly recommended.
The medieval parade in Fumel
On Sunday morning, a grand medieval parade winds through the streets of Fumel. Reenactment groups, musicians, jugglers, and costumed volunteers form a colorful procession that livens up the town center and invites spectators to join the celebration at the castle.
Professional troupes
Each edition hosts renowned performance troupes specializing in medieval reenactment. Among the regular groups are Les Sentinelles de la Guivre, la Compagnie Gueule de Loup, les Frères du Feu Sacré, and les Dernières Amazones, who offer high-quality combat demonstrations, fire shows, and historical reenactments.
