Classical and jazz music nights in the open air in Cajarc
Created in 2018 in Cajarc in the Lot, Les Nuits Cajarcoises is a classical and jazz music festival led by a young troupe of artists from the Toulouse Conservatory. Under the artistic direction of Nicolas Abella, the festival offers open-air concerts every summer on the Place de l'Église in Cajarc, in the heart of the land of Pompidou, Sagan, and Coluche. From baroque to contemporary, including jazz and opera, the program offers a varied repertoire accessible to all, combining lyrical recitals, chamber music, and themed evenings.
Since December 2018, the village of Cajarc, nestled in the Lot valley in Quercy, has hosted an exceptional music festival. Les Nuits Cajarcoises were born from the initiative of Nicolas Abella, a young baritone from Cajarc and an artist trained at the Toulouse Conservatory, who wanted to make his hometown vibrate to the sound of classical music and jazz. The festival is supported by the Appassionato troupe and the Anima Nostra association, bringing together passionate young professional musicians.
Les Nuits Cajarcoises offer an eclectic program that spans centuries and musical styles:
The festival's setting is one of its major assets. Summer concerts take place in the open air on the Place de l'Église in Cajarc, offering an architectural setting and an intimate atmosphere in the heart of the village. In case of bad weather, performances are moved to the auditorium of the municipal music school. The festival also offers dinner-concerts at the restaurant L'Allée des Vignes, combining Lot gastronomy with opera arias.
Initially launched with a Christmas recital in December 2018, the festival quickly won over the Cajarc audience. Building on this success, the organizers developed a summer edition offering several evenings of concerts during the last week of July. The festival thus features two highlights of the year: summer nights on the Church Square and a Christmas recital in the church of Cajarc in December.
Les Nuits Cajarcoises carry a strong ambition: to make classical music and jazz accessible in rural areas. The Appassionato troupe and the Anima Nostra association are committed to offering affordable prices and a warm welcome, convinced that music opens minds and offers a broader perspective on the world. The festival contributes to the cultural influence of Cajarc and the Lot valley, in a region marked by the memory of illustrious figures such as Georges Pompidou, Françoise Sagan, and Coluche.
The summer 2026 edition of Les Nuits Cajarcoises will take place at the end of July on the Place de l'Église in Cajarc. The classical and jazz music festival returns for several evenings of open-air concerts in the Lot valley.
