The open-air cultural summer of Grand Figeac
L'Astrolabe Prend le Large is the summer program of L'Astrolabe, the cultural service of Grand Figeac, which invests the squares, gardens, and villages of the Lot territory every summer. From July to August, this free event offers open-air concerts on the terraces of Puy in Figeac, cinema under the stars in rural communes, itinerant readings, and heritage walks, all in a friendly, starry-eyed atmosphere.
Every summer, L'Astrolabe, the cultural service of the Grand Figeac community of communes, casts off its moorings to meet residents and visitors throughout the territory. L'Astrolabe Prend le Large is a multidisciplinary summer program that combines music, cinema, readings, and heritage in open-air venues, offering a different and friendly way to experience culture.
Every Tuesday evening, the Cour du Puy in Figeac transforms into an open-air stage. Amidst old stones and century-old cypress trees, the Summer Tuesdays host concerts and live performances of various styles: world music, jazz, French chanson, traditional music, and contemporary creations. These free evenings have become an unmissable event of the Figeac summer, attracting families and music lovers in an enchanting setting.
The Cinétoile sous les étoiles program offers open-air film screenings in the villages and communes of Grand Figeac. At nightfall, around 10 p.m., screens light up under the starry sky for free screenings open to all. The host communes offer complementary activities beforehand: gourmet markets, hikes, guided tours, and readings, turning each evening into a true village festival.
The Astromobile, an itinerant library from the Grand Figeac network of media libraries, travels the territory throughout the summer to offer open-air reading sessions. Under the trees of an English garden or in the shade of a market hall, these literary events invite young and old to discover selected stories and texts, as part of the national operation Partir en livre.
The Heritage Walks reveal the secrets of the villages of Grand Figeac through guided tours of about an hour, without reservation, organized by the Pays d'art et d'histoire service. These cultural strolls allow visitors to discover the built heritage, local stories, and remarkable landscapes of the Figeac Quercy region.
L'Astrolabe Prend le Large embodies Grand Figeac's commitment to making culture accessible everywhere and for everyone. Since the program's launch after the opening of L'Astrolabe in 2016, the event has continued to grow, irrigating about thirty communes each summer with quality artistic offerings. Admission is free for all activities, making this summer event a moment of sharing and conviviality open to the greatest number.
The 2026 edition of L'Astrolabe Prend le Large will once again offer throughout the summer a program of open-air concerts, cinema under the stars, itinerant readings, and heritage walks in Grand Figeac. The detailed program will be unveiled in the spring of 2026.
