The laughter festival of La Baule, facing the ocean
Les Voiles de l'Humour is the humor festival of La Baule-Escoublac, in Loire-Atlantique. Created in 2023 by Mathilde Moreau and Erwan GdB, founders of the Compagnie du Café-Théâtre de Nantes, this spring event is held annually during the Easter holidays at the Atlantia Congress and Festival Palace, 200 meters from the beach. On two stages — a large auditorium with 900 seats and a 350-seat Comedy Club — the festival offers an eclectic program mixing one-man-shows, one-woman-shows, stand-up, comedy showcases, and shows for young audiences. Each edition is sponsored by a major figure in French humor. Driven by growing success (2,400 spectators in 2023, 3,000 in 2024, 5,200 in 2025), the festival has quickly established itself as a highlight of the cultural life of La Baule and the Côte d'Amour.
Les Voiles de l'Humour was born in 2023 from an original idea by Mathilde Moreau and Erwan GdB, creators of the Compagnie du Café-Théâtre in Nantes. Passionate about sailing and humor – two symbols of freedom – they naturally chose La Baule-Escoublac, an emblematic seaside resort on the Côte d'Amour, to host their laughter festival during the Easter holidays. The partnership with La Baule Événements and the Atlantia Congress and Festival Palace allowed the project to take flight from its very first edition.
The festival unfolds on two stages within the Atlantia Congress Palace: a large 900-seat auditorium hosting headliners and major one-man-shows, and an intimate 350-seat Comedy Club dedicated to stand-up and discovery showcases. This dual format allows for a rich and varied program, with approximately 12 shows and twenty artists per edition: one-man-shows, one-woman-shows, stand-up, 100% female comedy showcases with Les Baulettes, shows for young audiences, and showcases of emerging regional talents.
Each edition is placed under the sponsorship – or “captaincy” – of a major personality from the French comedy scene. Previous editions have featured Laura Felpin and Gérémy Crédeville (2023), Manu Payet, Marianne James, and Tristan Lopin (2024), and then Manu Payet again as official sponsor (2025), accompanied by Caroline Vigneaux, Jeanfi Janssens, and Marion Mezadorian. For 2026, Chantal Ladesou takes on the role of festival patron.
In just three editions, Les Voiles de l'Humour has seen spectacular growth in attendance: 2,400 spectators for the first edition in 2023, nearly 3,000 in 2024, and a record 5,200 spectators in 2025. This momentum reflects the festival's strong presence in the cultural landscape of La Baule and the Atlantic coast, and the quality of its programming, which appeals to both locals and vacationers.
4th edition of Les Voiles de l'Humour in La Baule. From April 23 to 26, 2026 at the Atlantia Congress and Festival Palace. 18 artists on 2 stages, with Chantal Ladesou as patron. Les Voiles de l'Humour returns from April 23 to 26, 2026 for a fourth edition at the Atlantia Congress and Festival Palace. Chantal Ladesou, an icon of French humor, is the patron — or "captain" — of this new edition, which features 18 artists on 2 stages.
On the grand auditorium stage, three top headliners will perform: Chantal Ladesou with her legendary energy, Philippe Caverivière, a sharp columnist and biting comedian, and Alex Vizorek with his show "2 ½". The festival also welcomes La Bajon and her show "Zen," blending engaged humor and self-deprecation.
The duo Oldelaf and Arnaud Joyet promises a wild musical show, while Mélodie Fontaine, Antonia de Rendinger, Kévin Robin, and William Pilet complete a program rich in discoveries and laughter. The Les Baulettes showcase, the 100% female event that has become the festival's signature, once again opens the festivities on Thursday evening. Emerging regional talents will be featured on the weekend stand-up showcase.
