Contemporary circus festival in the open air in Montmorillon
Since 2022, Les Voltiges Poitevines has been transforming the historic center of Montmorillon into a true open-air big top. Born as part of the summer cultural program "Un Été Autrement", this free contemporary circus festival has quickly become a must-attend summer event in the Vienne region, driven by the City of Montmorillon's commitment to promoting the right to holidays and leisure for all.
The festival is held in the heart of the Cité de l'Écrit et des Métiers du Livre, a major cultural hub in Montmorillon nestled in the city's medieval quarter. Performances take place in the squares, courtyards, and natural spaces of the city: Cour de la Préface, Place du Maréchal-Leclerc, Place du Vieux Marché, and Place de la Mairie all become ephemeral stages for acrobatics, juggling, and aerial feats.
Each edition features a program of five open-air performances by companies from France and beyond. Les Voltiges Poitevines highlights young circus companies presenting their latest creations, in a spirit that is poetic, festive, and original. The program is developed in collaboration with national contemporary circus centers (Nexon, Le Mans, La Cascade) and local organizations such as the CPA de Lathus and the École nationale de cirque de Châtellerault.
Beyond the performances, the festival offers introductions to circus arts, face painting workshops, and inflatable games for younger audiences. Les Voltiges Poitevines aims to be a suspended moment where circus arts meet and mingle in a festive and family atmosphere, a true learning experience for observation and open-mindedness. The festival acts as a unifying force for vibrant and enriching cultural activities in a rural setting, contributing to Montmorillon's reputation far beyond the department's borders.
Les Voltiges Poitevines returns for its 5th edition in the heart of the Cité de l'Écrit in Montmorillon. Five open-air performances will be offered by companies from France and beyond, in a poetic, festive, and original program accessible to all.
