Lo Rondèu: Occitan dance celebration

Lo Rondèu de Castelnau is a festival dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of the intangible heritage of Gascogne and Occitania. Since 1988, it has brought together lovers of traditional dances, music, and Occitan culture in Castelnau-Barbarens.

History

Le Rondèu was born in 1978 in Samatan thanks to a team of enthusiasts from the Centre Rural and the Conservatoire Occitan. In 1988, it was revived in Castelnau-Barbarens, where it has been held every two years since.

Workshops and dances

The festival offers workshops in traditional dance, singing, the Occitan language, and games for children and adults. The successive dances enchant dancers of all ages, from beginners to experienced dancers.

International encounters

Lo Rondèu invites traditional dance and music groups from other regions and countries, creating a dialogue between cultures. The 2025 edition saw Occitania dance with Romania.
