Mai du Livre: engaged literature in Tarbes
Mai du Livre is one of the oldest literary festivals in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Organized by the Ligue de l'Enseignement des Hautes-Pyrénées (FOL 65), it is held every year in May at the Haras de Tarbes and in various cultural venues in the city.
A week of literature and debates
For a week, the festival offers a rich program:
- Meetings with invited authors, with book signings
- Conferences and debates around the theme of the year
- Literary shows: musical readings, storytelling, theater
- Writing workshops for adults and children
- Exhibitions related to the theme
Engaged themes
Each edition addresses a societal issue through the prism of literature: "And the human?" in 2025, "Taking part" in 2024, "Daring to know" previously. The festival hosts renowned writers, African storytellers like Ladji Diallo, sociologists, and artists to foster reflection and civic debate.

47th Mai du Livre - May 2026
The 47th edition of Mai du Livre will be held in May 2026 at the Haras de Tarbes. The theme and program will be announced in the spring of 2026.
