The 9th Art at the Heart of a Medieval Castle

The Malbrouck Comic Festival offers a unique experience by bringing together two seemingly distant worlds: contemporary comics and medieval heritage. The Château de Malbrouck, a 15th-century fortress magnificently restored and managed by the Departmental Council of Moselle, hosts a weekend entirely dedicated to the 9th art in all its forms each year in June: Franco-Belgian comics, manga, comics, graphic novels, and children's illustration.

Meetings and Signings

The heart of the festival lies in the meetings between authors and the public. About twenty illustrators, scriptwriters, and mangakas are present throughout the weekend for personalized signing sessions. Visitors can interact directly with the artists, discover their creative process, and leave with an original drawing. Round tables and conferences allow for in-depth discussions on themes related to comic creation.

Immersive Exhibitions

Each edition features an immersive thematic exhibition in the castle's halls. In 2025, the cult series Vinland Saga by Makoto Yukimura is highlighted through an exhibition titled "Vinland Saga: A Quest for Identity". Previous years have seen tributes to other major works of manga and comics, transforming the medieval spaces into true sequential art galleries.

Workshops and Activities

The festival offers numerous creative workshops led by professional author-illustrators, accessible to both children and adults. Drawing battles pit artists against each other in improvised graphic duels. Shows, including the popular "interactive filming," animate the program. A Japanese village with games, quizzes, and a matsuri atmosphere completes the offering for fans of Japanese culture.

A Festival for All Audiences

The Malbrouck Comic Festival is aimed at all audiences, from young readers to seasoned collectors. Children's workshops, reading areas, and fun activities make it an event particularly suitable for families. Enthusiasts also find their satisfaction thanks to the quality of the invited authors and the richness of the round tables dedicated to the current events of the 9th art.

Château de Malbrouck, the Festival's Setting

The Château de Malbrouck, located on the heights of Manderen-Ritzing, is one of the best-preserved castles in Lorraine. Built in 1419 by Sir Arnold VI of Sierck, it offers a spectacular setting with its four towers, inner courtyard, and panoramic views of the Moselle hills. The contrast between the medieval architecture and the graphic universe of comics creates a unique atmosphere that is the charm of this festival.
