Beaumes-de-Venise and the golden triangle of the Dentelles de Montmirail

At the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, this limestone massif with jagged spires rising between Gigondas and Mont Ventoux, three exceptional appellations share one of the most renowned terroirs in the southern Rhône. Beaumes-de-Venise, Gigondas, and Vacqueyras form what wine lovers call the "golden triangle" of the Dentelles wines — three different expressions of the same terroir of sun-drenched Provençal pebbles, clay, and limestone, shaped by the mistral wind.

The Marché aux Vins de Beaumes-de-Venise is the annual event that celebrates this complementarity by bringing together winemakers from the three appellations for tastings and direct sales in a festive setting. The December market is perfectly timed to stock up family cellars and prepare for year-end festive tables.

Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise: jewel of natural sweet wines

The fame of Beaumes-de-Venise stems primarily from its Muscat AOC, one of France's most prestigious natural sweet wines. Produced from the Muscat à Petits Grains grape variety on soils of great complexity — black schist, clay, and limestone — this luminous golden wine develops incomparable aromas of white flowers (jasmine, acacia), exotic fruits (lychee, mango), honey, and vine peach. Its natural sweetness, achieved by mutage (fortification) of the must during fermentation with neutral alcohol, is perfectly balanced by a fresh acidity.

Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is best served chilled as an aperitif, pairs wonderfully with fruit and white chocolate desserts, and also elegantly accompanies foie gras and blue cheeses. Its festive character and aromatic complexity make it a natural choice for the holiday season.

The appellation also produces red wines under the Beaumes-de-Venise designation (AOC since 2005), primarily from Grenache, which rival their neighbors Gigondas and Vacqueyras in quality.

Gigondas and Vacqueyras: the great reds of the triangle

The Wine Market also welcomes winemakers from the Gigondas AOC and Vacqueyras AOC appellations, the other two poles of the Dentelles triangle. Gigondas, with its powerful and spicy reds from Grenache and Syrah on the steep slopes of the Dentelles, offers age-worthy wines of remarkable complexity. Vacqueyras, more accessible in its youth but equally structured, expresses a great aromatic generosity from its rolled pebbles, dominated by Grenache.

The simultaneous presence of these three appellations at the Marché aux Vins de Beaumes-de-Venise is a unique opportunity to compare, taste, and understand the different expressions of a common terroir according to the specific soils, grape varieties, and practices of each producer.

The Anniversaries Edition: a special December 2025 event

The Anniversaries edition on December 6 and 7, 2025, holds a special significance. It celebrates important milestones for the Dentelles appellations — anniversaries of historic estates, appellation recognitions, and significant moments in local wine history. Special cuvées, historical vertical tastings, and meetings with winemakers from multiple generations will mark this festive winter market.

The atmosphere of a wine Christmas market is enhanced by the village's year-end decorations, cozy fireside tastings, and seasonal gastronomy: foie gras, truffles from nearby Tricastin, aged cheeses, charcuterie, and artisanal chocolates perfectly complement the wines from the three appellations.

Festive gastronomy and exceptional products

The Marché aux Vins de Beaumes-de-Venise is inseparable from its seasonal gastronomic offerings. In December, the Provençal terroir is at its best with its winter products: black truffles from Tricastin and Richerenches (a few kilometers away), olives and olive oil from the new harvest, aged goat and sheep cheeses, garrigue and lavender honeys, artisanal jams, confits, and foie gras. These delicacies find their perfect pairing with Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, the reds of Gigondas, or the festive cuvées of Vacqueyras.

Restaurants and artisans offer seasonal menus and lunch options focused on wine pairings with the appellations' wines.

Beaumes-de-Venise, an authentic Provençal village

Beaumes-de-Venise is a charming Provençal village nestled at the foothills of the Dentelles. Its name is said to come from the Latin balma (cave) — referring to the numerous natural cavities in the limestone cliffs — and Venise, a corruption of Venaissin, recalling the former Comtat Venaissin which belonged to the Holy See until the Revolution. The village retains intact medieval architectural heritage: paved alleys, fountains, a Romanesque church, and panoramic views of the vineyards and the Dentelles.
