An ancestral market revived
The Marché de la Saint-Simon perpetuates a centuries-old commercial tradition. Back when Flavigny-sur-Ozerain was still a cantonal capital, the region's inhabitants exchanged their produce at regular markets. The Saint-Simon market, in October, was the last of the season, and therefore the most important, as it allowed for stocking up for winter. Gradually falling into disuse, this fair was revived in the 1980s by the Flavigny Animations association and the municipality.
Crafts, gastronomy, and second-hand goods
The fair unfolds in the medieval streets and alleys of the village, from 9 am until nightfall. Four themes structure the event: crafts, gastronomy, flea market, and short circuits. Exhibitors—potters, cheese producers, charcutiers, beekeepers, winemakers, and second-hand dealers—offer their creations and products in a friendly and authentic atmosphere.
Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, a medieval setting
Flavigny-sur-Ozerain is classified among France's Most Beautiful Villages. Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Ozerain valley, this medieval fortified village is famous for its Anis de Flavigny, aniseed sweets made since the 16th century in the former Benedictine abbey. The Marché de la Saint-Simon is the ideal opportunity to wander through the cobbled streets and discover the remarkable architectural heritage of the village.
Access and traditions
Entry to the village and parking cost 3 euros per vehicle, with a small packet of Anis de Flavigny offered by the Fabrique as a gift. A free shuttle service (carriages and buses) is provided between the parking lots and the village center.
