Confrérie de la Poule au Pot

A brotherhood born of History

In June 1570, the young Prince of Navarre, future Henri IV, fought his first battle at the chapel of Contaut, near Arnay-le-Duc. It is in memory of this historical event and the king's famous promise – "the chicken in the pot for every household on Sunday" – that the Confrérie de la Poule au Pot d'Henri IV et du Pays d'Arnay was founded in 1992.

The annual chapter

Every autumn, the brotherhood organizes its annual chapter, a true celebration of Burgundian gastronomy. On the program: a gala dinner featuring poule au pot, accompanied by local specialties – Charolais beef, gougères, ham with parsley, and Burgundy wines. Solemn inductions reward personalities who have contributed to the reputation of the Pays d'Arnay.

Promotion of the Burgundian terroir

A member of the Amicale des Confréries Gastronomiques de Bourgogne (Burgundy Gastronomic Brotherhoods Association), the brotherhood actively participates in promoting the culinary and tourist riches of the Pays d'Arnay and the Morvan region. It also organizes one-off events and participates in major brotherhood gatherings across Burgundy and France. New inductees receive the title of "Compagnon de la Poule au Pot" (Companion of the Chicken in the Pot) after successfully completing the culinary challenges set by the Grand Council of the brotherhood.
