Gourmet picnics under the stars at Parc Balsan in Châteauroux
Every summer, the Marchés Gourmands du Berry take over Parc Balsan in Châteauroux and several towns in the metropolis for open-air gastronomic evenings. On Fridays in July, about fifteen producers and food artisans from the Indre region offer their Berry specialties: spit-roasted ham, beef and lamb burgers, saffron crepes, fried carp, artisanal ice cream, and local drinks. The principle is simple: compose your dinner, settle on the grass, and enjoy a picnic under the stars, lulled by local music groups.
The Marchés Gourmands du Berry have become an unmissable summer event in the Châteauroux metropolis. About fifteen producers and food artisans from the Indre and neighboring departments offer their best specialties. Spit-roasted ham, Berry beef and lamb burgers, saffron crepes, fried carp — a specialty of the Brenne region — artisanal ice cream, and local drinks (craft beers, lemonades) make up a varied and gourmet menu. Visitors freely choose their dishes from the different stands to compose their personalized dinner.
The concept of the Marchés Gourmands is simple and friendly: visitors settle on the grass of Parc Balsan with their blankets, tablecloths, and cutlery to enjoy a picnic under the stars. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, under the park's ancient trees. People come with friends, family, or neighbors to share a moment of conviviality and delicious food in an exceptional green setting.
Every Friday evening, a local music group provides the entertainment, creating a festive and warm atmosphere. The melodies accompany the tastings and conversations, extending the summer evenings in the gentle Berry region. These open-air concerts are an opportunity to discover the local music scene while enjoying local products.
