The Renaissance Cellars of Marville Open to Wines

Marville opens its Wine Cellars is a unique event that combines architectural heritage and oenological discovery. Every year in June, the small town of Marville, a jewel of the Lorraine Renaissance nestled at the borders of the Meuse, Belgium, and Luxembourg, opens the doors of its centuries-old cellars to welcome winemakers from all over France.

Sixteen Cellars, Nineteen Winemakers

The event brings together about twenty wine producers who take over sixteen Renaissance-era cellars to offer their vintages to visitors. The winemakers represent a wide range of French terroirs: Alsace, Beaujolais, Bergerac, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Corbières, Côtes du Rhône, Fronsac, Jura, Languedoc, Loire, Meuse, and Moselle. Each cellar offers an intimate and historic setting for tasting.

An Underground Heritage Trail

Visiting the cellars is a remarkable heritage experience in itself. The Marville cellars, dug into the stone between the 15th and 16th centuries, bear witness to the past prosperity of this merchant town, which was a territory shared between France and the Empire. Ogival vaults, sculpted pillars, and spiral staircases create a fascinating underground decor that is wonderfully suited for wine tasting.

Marville, Pearl of the Lorraine Renaissance

The town of Marville boasts exceptional architectural heritage: Renaissance houses with ornate facades, the Saint-Nicolas church, and the cemetery of the Chapelle Saint-Hilaire with its medieval ossuary. The event is an opportunity to discover this little-known historic town, listed among the most beautiful villages in Lorraine. Visitors receive a tasting glass and a detailed map of the Marville cellars at the entrance.

A Friendly and Accessible Event

Organized by the association Marville Terres Communes, the event is open to all lovers of wine and heritage. The modest entrance fee (€6) grants access to all cellars and tastings, as well as the tasting glass and map. It is a moment of conviviality and sharing around wine and history, in an exceptional setting.
