The unmissable humor festival of Limousin
Born in 2020 in Boisseuil, MDR Empire — formerly MDR Festival — is the first major humor festival in Haute-Vienne. Every spring, the Espace Culturel du Crouzy transforms into a true temple of laughter, hosting a demanding program for several days that blends stand-up, one-man shows, and comedy performances. Driven by the association Horizons Croisés and the town of Boisseuil, this festive and popular event brings together top comedians on a stage just ten minutes from Limoges, offering the people of Limousin a moment of relaxation and conviviality that has become a must-attend over the years.
The adventure of MDR Empire began in 2020 when the association Horizons Croisés, in partnership with the municipality of Boisseuil, decided to create the first major humor festival in Haute-Vienne. Originally named MDR Festival, the event was born in September 2020 at the Espace Culturel du Crouzy, a 450 m² modular venue located in the heart of the village, just ten minutes from the center of Limoges. Despite a difficult health context, this first edition made a mark with a bold lineup featuring Guillaume Meurice, Constance, Didier Super, Frédéric Fromet, Laurie Peret, and Oldelaf. The success was immediate: the audience in Limousin, eager for laughter and live performance, embraced this new event with enthusiasm.
Building on this initial success, the festival changed its name to MDR Empire and moved to the spring, establishing itself as the flagship event of the season in Limousin. The second edition, scheduled for May, confirmed the project's ambition with a major lineup: Mathieu Madenian, Tanguy Pastureau, Christophe Alévêque, Christelle Chollet, Laurie Peret, Noëlle Perna (Mado la Niçoise), Jason Brokerss, Fills Monkey, and Franck Lepage performed on the Crouzy stage over five days of festivities. The festival also offered an off program with free access, featuring street performances and shows by companies like Batucadonf and Compagnie du Roseau, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the village of Boisseuil.
The strength of MDR Empire lies in its ability to blend different genres and styles of humor. From the sharp stand-up of Tanguy Pastureau to the political satire of Guillaume Meurice, from the wild one-woman shows of Constance to the quirky musical performances of Fills Monkey and Oldelaf, each edition offers a comprehensive panorama of the contemporary French humor scene. The organizers ensure a mix of nationally recognized artists and emerging talents, guaranteeing evenings full of surprises and laughter.
The Espace Culturel du Crouzy, a flagship venue in the town of Boisseuil, provides an intimate and warm setting, perfectly suited for comedy shows. Its 450 m² modular hall, excellent acoustics, and proximity to the town center make it a prime location for performances. Free parking, accessibility from Limoges, and the friendly atmosphere of the site contribute to making MDR Empire a complete experience where the pleasure of the show extends to enjoying a drink and meeting fellow festival-goers.
Beyond entertainment, MDR Empire plays a unifying role for the region. Driven by the association Horizons Croisés and supported by the town of Boisseuil, the festival mobilizes numerous local volunteers and partners. It boosts the town's economy for several days and contributes to the cultural influence of Haute-Vienne far beyond its borders. In just a few editions, MDR Empire has established itself as a regional benchmark for live humor, proving that laughter is a powerful vector for social connection and regional vitality.
The 2026 edition of MDR Empire will once again take over the Espace Culturel du Crouzy in Boisseuil in May. The humor festival will continue its rise with an ambitious program bringing together the best comedians from the French scene. Stand-up, one-man shows, and comedy performances will follow each other for five days in a festive and popular atmosphere.
