Two days of medieval festivities
The Medieval Festival La Roche à Foucauld takes over the Château de La Rochefoucauld and its surroundings every summer for a weekend of large-scale historical reenactment. Organized by the association Les Rupificaldiens since 2011, this medieval festival has become one of the most popular events in Charente, attracting over 13,000 spectators during the 2025 edition.
Shows, chivalry, and falconry
The festival program offers a rich panel of medieval entertainment: knightly jousts, falconry demonstrations, sword fights, axe throwing, juggling shows, and fire-breathers. The lord of La Roche and his court parade through the town streets in a grand costumed procession, accompanied by musicians, troupes of acrobats, and horsemen. A medieval market of artisans offers period objects, weapons, and costumes.
Pyrotechnic show and medieval feast
On Saturday evening, the festival culminates with a medieval feast (reservations required), followed by a fire show and a grand pyrotechnic show. In 2025, the company Zoolians presented *Arcanes*, an original pyrotechnic show, followed by fireworks. On Sunday, entertainment resumes with a medieval roast suckling pig meal and continuous shows until the late afternoon.
The Château de La Rochefoucauld, a historic setting
The Château de La Rochefoucauld, nicknamed the "Jewel of Angoumois," is one of the most beautiful castles in Charente. A combined pass "medieval festival + castle visit" allows visitors to discover this historic monument at a preferential rate during the festival weekend.
